So what impressions did you get from the teaser?

Post » Fri Jun 13, 2014 4:16 am

So by now I'm sure you've all had a look at the teaser for the impending Doom 4 reveal that will take place at QuakeCon 2014.

Have a look at the teaser http://doom.com/en-us/

I'm just wondering what impressions the teaser has left you with?

I read the news of the trailer over at PCGamer earlier today, of course immediately had to watch it.

My impressions..

It's dark, shows a very endearing fusion between flesh and machine that I immediately recognized as a (childhood memory) the Cyberdemon.

And oh my lord, that DOOR! THAT DOOR IS TELLING ME TO KILL DEMONS! You know what I'm talking about.

Classic Doom is making a comeback.

I am shaking in suspense.

The gun the Demon posses has the UAC logo. It is known by the trailer that this new tech UAC created allows fusion between organic matter and machine.

I have two theories:

- UAC created this cybrdemon(it makes UAC like an Umbrella Corp of Doom).

- The Demons, during, invasion stole the tech from UAC and fusioned themselves with the UAC weaponry.

HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE

Love the art style (monster design) and the fact we can see things clearly means darkness but not Doom3 pitch black which is good! Also, that door sound!!!! Ah, can't wait to rip and tear!!!!

Seems to me that the demon's got the UAC logo because this game is about AFTER the demons invaded, like Doom2. Remember? They took over the UAC bases and now THEY control the tech and all.

I consider this game a total reboot of the series, that is why they only call it by DOOM, instead of Doom 4.

Yes, we know. However, there is no requirement for the game to do origin story all over again. We've already seen that a LOT.

This game might jump into a future where the demons already won their invasion and the player explains the origin in some flashback or monologue, or even a short intro cinematic (which would be awesome, I'm not saying the rest of the game would have them).

I agree! The teaser was designed perfectly. No UAC military marching or character intro nonsense, just a huge demon puffing up and the "player" ready to shoot it with a shotgun! DOOM! Hah!

I hope they put dual weapons in Doom like they did to Wolfenstein TNO, I loved the dual shootgun, it shoots faster than the double berreled shotgun, and also reloads faster. The 2 barreled shotgun in TNO doesn't stand a chance agant the dual shotgun. And for a game set in the f1cking future like Doom, the dual shotgun fits better.

The door resembles the original one not only with its sound, but also its look.

I had an impression that this means the next DOOM game is going to be a lot like the original game. (at least tries to be)

Let's just hope they do a good job at it!

As long as we get gun mechanics like Rage/Wolf and level design like the original Dooms I'll be satisfied.

What I dream for though, is that they go beyond that. Not just the same ol' stuff, but also incredible new things to bring to the table. Things we've never seen.

Also, my 1 criticism is that it looks BROWN. Just a dusty brown everywhere and I hope the game is much more colorful than that (like Doom used to be).

However, this is just a CG teaser and I've noticed most of Bethesda's GC videos look visually boring with brown/gray (TESO for example).

I really want this to be on earth but since this is a reboot, I think we might get a cliffhanger of going to earth and nothing more.

Also UAC is there, I wonder if Mixom and Moxim exist lol.

Anyone think Betruger would be back? Or is that story dead and they are reinventing characters now.

I hope is colorful too but in the dark sense, You know greens for the moss on the dead, red for the dried blood splatters on the floor. Blue for the burning hell fires coming to you face lol. I'm actually super excited to see how next gen doom guy and pinky looks.

Actually when I saw the first two shot of absolute red/brown, I was like oh no, it's turning into duke nukem crap. But when I saw it all the way through with all that great design and subtle blues and reds, i felt better.

That kind of color use sounds perfect! I think we're gonna see a lot of blue lights, in the style of the lights on the demon's body in that trailer. I'm sure we'll get a good dose of darkness like in the trailer, they're probably trying to get that atmosphere down well.

Can't wait for the new Pinky, I love the classic and Doom3 one the same!

It has about the same relationship to the game that the ESO trailers had. Almost none. They are pretty cool though.

I guess I should at least make a half-assed attempt at controlling my expectations, I find it hard to even enter that mindset. The teaser does tell us something about the game, or at least the thing they're trying to sell which seems to be something every doom fan would want. If I were to look at this as simply a product, the selling points would have to be demon, classic doom and nostalgia hyped [censored] (lets be honest).

It's telling me that they're leaning towards a Doom that resembles the original Doom instead of giving it a new direction, or further developing the concept they had in Doom 3.

Though I might be reading too much into it, I will admit that much.

I can definitely see the door as being a Quakecon nerdgasm moment (I can already imagine the crowd reacting) I don't think id would be so heartless to use it as a simple hype generator instead of actually using it to tell us something about what they're trying to make.
