Is the Morrowind Modding community alive ?

Post » Wed May 12, 2010 2:53 pm

Indeed it is (active ;) ) ; personally, I've got a lot left to tackle (it seems) as I am never without ideas or or desires to add new things to the game: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/WAR_MISC_WIPZ_ATM.jpg

Active? Ha, it's not just active, I dare say it has something of a cult following. I myself have bought the game many times, because a friend got so addicted to it they never returned my disk etc. Axel made a good point.. this game is unlike any other out there, and you'll find people return to it all the time. As for the many forumites. the pace has slowed but in my opinion the community has grown as a whole.

We are much more of a tight knit group than the days when modding pages were filled in 20 mins. You'll find that many of us are constructive in our input, and when an argument ensues we tend to keep one another in line. To me that means more towards an active community than a large number of people drifting though, because we truly act as a community. :)

Either way, welcome aboard and http://www.uesp.net/w/images/images.new/c/c4/Fishystick.jpg

I find it funny that people ask this when a quick look at the dates times of the posts on the first page here would tell anyone that this game is anything bu dead... Just sayin...

Agreed, i don't even think that progress has slowed doen in the modding community, just seems people are all working on large projects, and just post updated every now and then.

TR are still actively working on stuff, and skyrim is still being worked on, and there are tonnes of mods all being worked on :)

Thankfully

The modding community is so alive that even the mods have mods.

It seems more active than ever. I've downloaded more, and better, Morrowind mods recently than I have back in Morrowind's younger days. And there are some mods out there that are just changing the very nature of the game. Just to name a few that I've gotten in the last year or two that have dramatically improved the gaming experience: MGE, the mods that add voiced narration to Almalexia and Vivec, Westly's Heads, and LGNPC (although it's been around for years, I only got it recently).

And pretty much every great new mod I've gotten is also continually being updated, too.

morrowind modding is alive and well, and has been getting better and better. there's no denying that.

the community is another story. there's a whole lot of information out there for modding, and many will help you out through posts, but there generally isn't a community left to help build/test/pair up, etc. should be expected though, almost all modding communities this old are at this phase now.

Morrowind is still the most flexible and modable game RPG I have found. (Fate is also very easy to mod, but it is a dungeon crawl only.)

Seconded.

I love this thread :)

i stopped playing morrowind a few months back, because it got too addictive, and started oblivion. now i've stopped playing oblivion, and am currently reinstaling mods for MW, because OB was just way too frustrating...

The "Not Navi"?

Nope, they aren't the Na'vi at all (and any likeness, though almost exact, is purely coincidental); Its just a funny name for my part of the Pandora project, mostly (as we were talking about copyrights and likenesses being used; no harm done if they are not the Na'vi, right ;) ).

Why is something marked "NON RELEASE"

Because there is another folder that is marked "For Release" inside of that particular folder; the non release version was too complicated at the time to accomodate both sixes (as far as the specific body slots used), so I made a more simplified version that I hope to release someday :whistling: .

I consider Morrowind like a famous painting like the Mona lisa or Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel. Even tho they were painted over 500 years ago people are still coming to see its grandeur and charm. Every company, like an artist, creates a lot of works but few could be considered "masterpieces". Bethesda has created many wonderful works but its masterpiece...............is MORROWIND.

No problem, I hope Bethesda creates another masterpiece because the ES is becoming more "general" and less "exclusive". In other words, the series is becoming more tailored for the general public than for the purist rpg fans. Morrowind was unique because it somehow found a middle ground to please both. Even tho I'm playing Oblivion at this moment, MW atmosphere can't be imitated. As an artist, I believe it's easier to create a new masterpiece than to replicate a masterpiece.

Indeed. However, although the generalizations concern me too, Bethseda's commitment to an open world full of side quests should be an inspiration to other companies. If more companies made that a focus and then added an ability to modify it like bethseda does, there would be a lot more high quality games out there. I mean, imagine if bethseda got the rights to do a vampire the masquerade game!

As much as I love Morrowind, and its strangely alien charm, I believe what turned it into the epic saga it has become is the CS, and the ease with which it can be modded. Despite it's cranky render engine, curious scripting issues, and performance problems (even on recent hardware); almost anyone can pick up the tools to create new things. It's a nice canvas already, but it practically begs you to mess with it anyway. It's almost trivial to bring in new objects, and with just a bit of effort, scripting isn't too difficult. Unlike Oblivion (for me anyway), the CS didn't get in the way when you think "Hmm, I wonder if I could change that..."

I'm hoping that TES V will bring that back. I know, it will have Havok style physics and voice acting, but I'd like to see a return to the extreme malleability that Morrowind offers. It would be nice to have a fresh, fancy new engine to build on...
