Pre War History of the Bay Area (WIP)
Before the Great War the Bay Area was the “technological blast furnace of America.” House was personally the one who coined the term during an interview.
“The Bay Area is an entire technological blast furnace for American technology. The Hephaestus of America!”
Companies like RobCo, Med-Tek, Microsoft, GenenTech just to name a few. Many of these companies were crucial to America dominance in technology in the world and would receive government research grants for advancing American technology especially during the Sino-American War.
Though the place experienced great turmoil during the Resources War. Communist purges took place in the Bay Area leaving a mark of fear in the region against communism. The massive migrants from East Asia fueled xenophobic violence in the streets of SF. The regions liberal thinking and attitude made the place heavily watched by the FBI and socially frowned upon by more conservative Americans.
When war erupted with China, the Mare Island Naval Shipyard and the SF Naval shipyard began churning out ships for the war effort against China. Thousands of men and women were called up for from the Bay Area large population.
Seven years before the Great War, vaults were built in the Bay such as on the Santa Cruz Mountains and Mount Diablo. These vaults would house the wealthy, the rich, and the elite from the Bay. By then, the Bay experienced more turmoil and social upheaval such as with the ghettoization of the in the Bay Chinese and clandestine PLA attacks in the Bay such as the destruction of MINSY.
When the bombs struck massive chaos ensued. SF, San Jose, Oakland were all hit. EMP knocked all electronics in blast areas and caused massive panics as people flooded the highways, looted stores and attacked the Chinese living in the Bay who was seen as cause of the attack. Local city and town governments tried to keep order including in militias formed by the citizens to keep order. Though order broke down by the next day. Hospitals ran out of supplies, and police and militias could not keep order and gave up. A week later whrn the Black Rain fell, thousands fell ill to its radioactive particles and died. By New Year’s Eve, the region was a dystopic hell.
