Oblivion crashing constantly, was wondering if it is a mod : IV

For some reason, just today, Oblivion has started crashing on me every 5 minutes, and it is getting REALLY annoying. I ave not installed any mods at all since the last time i played it, so not sure what is causing it.

Was thinking MAYBE it could be a mod somehow though:

First thing to try is a new character, if that does not have the problem, then load an earlier save and see if that has the problem.

Then, turn off your Autosave features, they corrupt in this game, particularly with mods. In fact, you may not want to use Quicksaves (can't remember if it is this game or Morrowind or both that has a quicksave that does not save everything and that's a problem with mods that have scripts)

Yup, it was just that save, jumped onto my Barbarian and then onto a slightly earlier non-autosave and it worked fine, Thanks for the help. Is there a mod like CASM that works for Oblivion?

I don't know what CASM is but there are several mods that handle auto saves on a rotating basis that are better than the vanilla auto save feature. Streamline is one, but there are others I cannot remember the names. Unfortunately, none of them are really recommended. There is a Duke Patrick mod I have heard of but cannot remember the exact name that gives you a reminder when to save at a safe spot (outside of combat, etc.). That is the one people recommend most. But I cannot remember the name.
