Where are Steam mods

Post » Wed Jun 18, 2014 11:27 pm

I have really big problem with Steam mods.

Steam Workshop says to download mod I have to subscribe it. After subscribing it, in downloading files there's "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - workshop content". It shows, how much is to download etc.

When downloaded file, it says it's finished. But I cannot find this mod anywhere. Data folder doesn't have it.

My Steam is broken, I can't find any downloaded mod from Workshop.

I'm a noobie skyrim mod user. Actually just started yesterday. I use the nexus manager and steam workshop. The way I understand it is, I go to the steam workshop, look for the mod I like and subscribe. The rest looks like it happens automatically meaning I don't do any other thing at all after I click subscribe. When I open the game , during the startup, I see a msg on the screen that tells me the workshop mods I've "subscribed" to are loading.

Hope this helps....
But don't take my word for it, as stated, noobie mod user

1. NEVER use Steam workshop, EVER. It acts as if mods are plug and play, which they are not. It auto updates them, and very few mods should be auto updated and steams way of doing it WILL (not maybe, not possibly, WILL) cause serious issues.

2. If you MUST have a steam worshop mod, subscribe, open Skyrim up, and that will actually install the mods. Then close Skyrim, find the mod files in the data folder and take them out and put them somewhere else, then unsubscribe from the mod in Steam workshop. Then put the files into a Zip folder (have all of them selected and right click them and click "send to.." and then "zip". now use mod manager of choice.

sound complicated...lol, so I'm gonna unsubsidized the stuff i choose in workshop and that should take care of all the workshop mods that I put on, right?

I wouldn't go that far. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with mods being on the workshop. Only mods with loose scripts are a danger to the plug and play model if things are organized well.

As long as you leave the Skyrim launcher alone once you have launched it once & downloaded your mods, they won't update again, and you can use the SKSE launcher, Nexus Manager, Mod Organizer or Wrye Bash to start your game.

ANY mod with scripts does not work with steams false "plug and play" model.
