Words turning into adds on ALL browsers..

Post » Sun Jun 22, 2014 2:51 pm

So a while ago I made a thread about how my internet browser turns random words into text that has a hyperlink with an add that pops up and it's annoying as HECK.

Well, now, all other browsers do this too. I opened up IE, same thing. Firefox, same thing. Chrome? Adds.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, HOW DO I GET THIS TO STOP. Can someone please link to me a site to DL a free malware scanner or something, I don't know wtf the problem is.

Try Spybot Search and Destroy, it's probably the best out there for anti-adware stuff.

try and be a bit careful of what you do on the net from this day forward..

I would also recommend that you install Avast! along with Malwarebytes

It's most likely an add on or a toolbar that installed itself (read: you accidentally installed it while installing something else). The same thing happened to me a while back. I found what the toolbar was called and uninstalled/disabled it and the problem went away.

I cannot find a proper link to DL Spybot. EVery single google result takes me to a shady website that takes me to other websites that take me to other websites.

After you clear out the Malware, you have to delete the extension from Chrome. I don't know how to fix it with the other browsers.

The only extensions showing up in Chrome are Adblock Plus, Google Docs, and Skype.

I randomly opened IE, and the first thing it went to was Coupons.com.

...................

That was what all the registry things were when I did the malware search.

It has a Find feature to allow you to search for specific entries. However, I would very strongly advise you not to start making any registry edits unless you know exactly what you're doing, or you run the risk of completely trashing your system. Whatever you do, make a backup copy of the registry before doing any editing.

I'm just giving up. I cannot understand how to get rid of this crap, and after 2 malware searches it's says it's gone, and it's not.

Try using http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download to scan your registry and see if it identifies any entries associated with coupon.com or any other crap you might have on your computer. It can safely clean these entries up for you - just make sure you tell it to back up registry changes before cleaning in case something goes wrong.

Try resetting your settings on your browsers.

Also, I just remembered how this happened to me...

1. Figure out which software it was that you installed at the time of the infection.

2. Uninstall it.

Malware scans didn't catch it for me. Had to do it personally.

In Google Chrome, if you go to Settings -> Advanced, it's at the very bottom. Don't know for others.
