LET'S MAKE THIS WORK PEOPLE!

Okay, now as anyone could see there are HUNDREDS of tech threads floating around in CD - ranging from questions about graphics hardware, to questions about pricier graphics hardware and other tech such as monitors, hard drives and Processors to announcement threads of new technology and more. (I accede - I'm not being very eloquent here)

Any questions you have, tech news or ANYTHING related to buying/selling/information/announcements of new hardware should go here.

For example, if you come to the forums to ask "What is the better graphics hardware" or "What sort of RAM should I put in my PC?" then it should go here - I'm a little hazy, I know - but please keep all those graphics card and tech questions to one thread! Please!
So here's the summary, all:
  • Announcements and queries on new or unreleased tech
  • Benchmarks and results of hardware/discussion
  • Questions on what sort of hardware you need/want for your machine
  • Questions about existing tech and/or function
  • Pricing and recommendations
Should be kept to THIS THREAD.

Oh and PLEASE, if you want us to "Build" you a PC, please indicate the following:
1.) your budget in your country's currency
2.) what country you reside if not listed in your avatar area
3.) pre-assembled PC? ...or can you build your own?
4.) what is needed other than the PC tower? Monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, Windows OS disc? All these can jack up the price.
5.) product preferences, preferred seller, and intended aim

but please, no "I want teh superererest Peecee evar1!!!!11!1", because really, only Bill Gates has that much moolah.

And, speaking of building your own PC, two sets of good how-to videos from Newegg:

Thanks to SpankyTheElf for finding these additional ones:

This has been A-okayed by CCNA for all who were wondering - it's up to you to stop filling CD with the same topics again and again that ask what the most powerful card in existence is so you can (not) buy it.

If you feel you have a question or can answer one - please feel free to do so.

Thanks all.
Adding more links shortly, thank you for your patience.

(Threads 1-85 have been all pruned, may they rest in peace)

Hi, I am currently having a problem with my computer, which is that it freezes rather often. There is very, very rarely a blue screen (so rarely, and never a "hardware error") and during the normal freeze the computer does not shut off or restart, it just freezes with a kind of jaggy chainsaw sound coming from the speakers (when audio is playing at the time of the freeze).

It most often happens when I am playing games such as Skyrim (heavily modded), the Sims 3, Civ V, as well as games like Minecraft and Space Engineers, which I generally play with video streaming in the corner with Chrome or Firefox. It also sometimes freezes when I am using photoshop.

I am wondering what tests I should run (first) and what kind of problem this sounds like. Let me know if you would like any more information. Thanks so much, for your help!

Except skyrim, those other games you get the freeze - do you play them, whilst you do video streaming ???

I mean have you tried to play, without any other program(s) interfering your game-play ???

iirc, most blue screens give some vague specification why the blue screen happened. The occurence of blue screens increased on my old PC throughout the years. Same thing: random crash, the same annoying sound. Mine happened because of faulty memory. You could try running http://www.memtest.org/ (burn it on a dvd, insert it, let it run overnight). In my case, one strip of RAM was corrupted, because it returned all kind of errors. When I removed one of them, no more errors. In the end, I had to buy some new RAM.

There's also some windows application for it under control panel -> system management -> windows memory test (something like this). If these programs don't return any errors, you can rule out the memory as being the culprit for your problem.

I also have a small problem of my own. I recently build a new system, SSD and all. The thing is, when I boot, my monitor goes on standby for like 30 seconds, right after the "windows starting" screen. I can't do anything, there's also some noise, the kind of sound when you plug speakers in something. After 30 seconds of standby mode, booting continues and I'm staring at my desktop. I've fiddled around in BIOS, checked the system files, installed all the windows updates and drivers, yet it's still there.

Most likely your monitor don't auto-detect the input source, at the boot sequence, and therefore the 30 sec delay. !!!!

Monitors and TV's have an input source selection switch. Are you certain that the display is set to select the proper source?

On some monitors, the video input or source selection can be found in the onscreen menu system. If so, press the Menu button on the monitor and use the front panel buttons to select Switch Video Input .

If your monitor has more that one input sources (DVI - VGA - HDMI), try to set manually your monitor's input source via your monitor controls.

Or try at least to connect your GPU to another input source. For example try the VGA anolog input, or switch from HDMI to DVI. !!!! (if you screen has more input capabilities)

---------

Have you selected performance mode under the power options in your control panel ???

Change plan settings: Turn off the display / Put the computer to sleep (Never)

Also:

turn off hard disk (never)

(Disable) all Sleep, Hibernate, and allow wake timers.

Turn off display after (Never)

--------

If the monitor has a factory reset or restore option, set it. Press the Menu button on the front panel and select Factory Reset .
--------
But i don't know what you have switched in your BIOS.
Actually setting your motherboard to "optimal settings" should be OK for the most....or even "system default."
