Game crashing at starup

Post » Wed May 12, 2010 10:30 am

After a few months, I installed Fallout3 and added a few mods to my previous collection. The game began to crash before reaching Main Menu of the game.

It seems that the crash is caused by ArchiveInvalidation because at first I forgot to toggle that in FOMM and the game ran fine but without any mods. After I toggled invalidation in FOMM I received the crashing.

The funny thing is that I've been playing Fallout just fine 10 months ago with multiple mods. So why do I have problems now? Could it be that before I used the Unofficial Patch and now I'm using Official Patch 1.6?

If you're using mods, you should patch to 1.7. Most mods will have been made with an updated GECK, which will be expecting the game to be 1.7.

I already had the GOTY installed and I got the same thing. That was why I tried with 1.6.

A crash at start up is usually caused by a missing master file that a mod needs. Make sure you have everything installed correctly. If you post a load order, maybe someone can help you track down the missing file.

As I said, the crash starts when the bInvalidateOlderFiles is set to 1. Since I saw other people have this problem, I doubt there is a master file involved.

When it comes to reading instructions, I am very pedantic. I'm sure I did everything as I was suppose to. Could my computer be doing something wrong when extracting zipped files? Is that possible?
