The move-delay playing 3rd person

Post » Thu Jun 26, 2014 11:44 am

Hello !

I noticed a delay when I press W/Q/S/D my character doesn't instantly move.

It takes almost 1sec to react when playing 3rd person view while there's no delay at all playing 1st peron view.

Anyone know how to fix this ?

I enjoy much more playing these games with the camera behind my character MMO's style; but it feels really 'slow" because of this thing

Strange. I've never once experienced that. Are you running any mods perhaps that could be causing an issue?

Mmh weird... So when you press W/A/S/D playing 3rd person your character immediately move right when you press the button (like in 1st person) ..?

It could be a mod, but I feel like I'm experiencing that since I first played the game

I certainly don't recall experiencing such a delay. Now, reloading after being killed and then trying to use a spell or weapon in third person, I've noticed issues there...

This sounds like a hardware problem to me. I always play in 3rd person and, like the others here, I have never experienced this.

Try this, launch the game in Windowed Mode, see if the performance is better. If so, then there is a mod to remove the window border. Some people have much better performance in windowed mode, some people it does not matter.

Second, is this a wired or wireless keyboard? If the above gives you no joy, then swap to a wired keyboard.

Third, try adjusting the keyboard repeat rate, it does not take much of a change to have an effect on the game.

Fourth, if you have any keyboard software (Intellitype or Razor or Logitech or whatever) disable that software and see what happens.

I'm always playing Windowed Mode so I tried fullscreen instead : Same result.

I did set all the graphic options to "Low" in case of, even if my FPS are good.

My keyboard is wired, and got no special maccro buttons or anything, just a normal keyboard

I've tried moving the keyboard repeat rate to minimum, maximum, and middle; same result.

That said, thanks for helping me but after googling "skyrim 3rd person delay" I saw a mountain of people talking about the same problem I have... The most common answer is "This is how the 3rd person works, the delay is intentional so your character look "less stupid" moving around."

That makes sense but you guys seems to not have these 0.5s I'm talking about so I'm confused :$

PS : I've tried a bit of everything, turning on/off Vsync., disabling some keyboard options (sticky keys etc.), deleting all my mods, reinstalling the game..

PPS : I have no problems at all with my mouse, aiming is totally fine.

Sounds like a keyboard issue to me, but I would think it would effect 1st person as well...

One of the reasons I don't play this game in First Person....Although I did play in 3rd Person for a while last night while waiting for the ESO patch to download and did not see this lag. So:

Let's make sure of a few other things:

Open the INI file and look for the following line and make sure it looks like this:

bBackground Keyboard=1

Disable the Gamepad and Rumble in Controller (Gameplay?) options. You can also do this in the Prefs file, by setting those two lines to 0 (search for pad and you will find both of them)

Install the http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/2581/?, run the game with it, then edit the CFG file in for the SR to clamp frame rates to 40 to 54 FPS (you can go as low as 35 and still have fluid framerates)

Setting the lines :

bGamePadRumble=0

bGamepadEnable=0

And installing the Stutter Remover didn't fix it, I still have the delay pressing WASD while I can jump and attack immediately when the button is pressed..

I don't have this line either in my SkyrimPrefs.ini or Skyrim.ini, do I need to create it myself ?

No, I just reinstalled Skyrim completely making sure I deleted everything in between. (And that's why I took so long so answer)

Interesting, I haven't seen this in Skyrim, but it happened to me once when I reinstalled Vampire: Bloodlines on a newer computer.

Unfortunately, I never figured out what the problem was and just uninstalled the game.

i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz

AMD Radeon HD 6850

8Gb RAM

Windows 7 64-bits

It's pretty old, but I've got solid FPS playing on medium with some option high.

But again, I don't see how my specs could have a link with the problem I have; everything works perfectly playing 1st person.

It's weird because every other keyboard-actions like jumping, sneaking, running etc.., answers normally. Only these damn 0.5s on WASD ! :yuck:

Well, what i have found on the net is this. This happens to some players but not all of them. !!!!

SKSE devs response to a user contact, with the same problem.

" I haven't investigated the issue, but my first guess would be that player movement, especially in third person, is driven by animation.

The animation system passes the expected movement for each movement back to the physics and gameplay code, leading to the player moving around.

So that the player looks less stupid in third-person view, there's some acceleration when starting to move. Fixing this would be a data-side fix rather than a code-side fix."

Yes, this is what I mentioned above.

But then why doesn't everyone have this ?

> But then why doesn't everyone have this ??? <

Ha, ha that's the million dollar question....For example i haven't !!!!

Actually i played for months with keyboard and mouse, but as i bought the Logitech F310 Game-pad, i don't want to switch back to keyboard+mouse anymore !!!!

-----------------

Can you try this. You have a ATI card. So...

The ATI Catalyst drivers include a ATI HotKey Poller service that has been reported to cause input lag on certain system configurations.

If you do not overclock your video card or use the ATI hotkeys, it is recommend that you disable this service if you are experience input lag in games.

To disable this service:

  1. Click Start -> Run
  2. Type Services.msc and press Enter
  3. Find the service "ATI HotKey Poller"
  4. Right-Click on the service and select Properties
  5. Change "Startup type" to Disabled
  6. Click "Apply", then "Ok"
  7. Reboot your computer

---------

it could be that something is interfering with your keyboard as you play. I don't know. As i say, i played for months with a keyboard either 1st or 3rd person, but surprisingly no lag at all.

Actually i am very satisfied with Skyrim's performance so far. !!!
