Realistic Uses for Weapons

Post » Mon Jun 30, 2014 6:19 pm

In the past I've usually just stuck with one weapon class (but usually raise at least two) but now I've decided to use a variety of weapon types that I think would make sense for the various enemies. So rather than just use one-handed swords all the time, I save them for anything that is lightly or not armored at all (light armor warriors, aggressive wildlife/creatures and Draugr because Ancient Nord Armor leaves a lot of flesh exposed for one-handed sword strikes). I've taken to using battleaxes against the bigs like dragons, mammoths and giants (and maybe Giant Frostbite Spiders). Finally I reserve warhammers for anything armoured (heavy armor warriors/Falmer and constructs), using as many power attacks as possible since that kind of force would be necessary.

That's a good way to RP; I was disappointed back when Morrowind came out, as I thought things like that mattered.

But no matter, as you're free to RP it that way, and I know for me, whacking a Dwemer construct with a warhammer feels more proper than using a sword, whereas a warhammer feels like overkill against a bandit in a fur kilt.

Nice idea ;),I think I will do that for my next game.

It's to bad that there is no way to get half swording animations in a game like Skyrim, using Harnischfechten would make far more sense when using a swords against armor.

My main weapon of choice is the bow, but when things get messy I always have a good sword and shield in my inventory.

Hear, hear. Would certainly make more sense than an experienced character hacking away with his/her sword like a caveman.
