EDIT: I just realised that the title is not entirely accurate. Sorry.
I could really use some help from anyone who knows about the Apache web server.
So I've just started reading a book called PHP, MySql, JavaScript and HTML5 for dummies and I'm confused. I'm supposed to download and install the latest possible version of the Apache web server. I am on Windows and I do not know how to install Apache from source code; because of this I am supposed to download a binary file for it, a sort of easy installer.
My problem is that I cannot seem to find anything similar to what is described in the book, apart from the MSI installers for earlier versions that are, as described, on the very same page as the source code downloads and a link named binaries. With the latest version I have to click on this link named Binaries, so my guess is that the book I'm reading came out when "Binaries" did not exist and one could simply download the latest version from the same page as the source code downloads.
I cannot seem to link to the page that has the binary downloads, but according to that page the latest version that's available for Windows is 2.2.25, however it seems that there is a much newer version available for download from source code.
I did some research to make sure that it isn't a matter of Windows being incompatible with the latest version and one website claimed that they (the software creators) are simply no longer releasing binary files for later versions of Apache, however a link was provided to another website with binary files for Apache that are updated to the latest version (2.4.9), this other website being named Apache Lounge, but I'm not sure if this website can be trusted, or even if they are distributing the Apache software legally.
So my question is: Is it safe and legal to download the latest version from the Apache Lounge website, or should I use an earlier version from the official Apache website?
Thanks in advance.
