Still can't get around this roleplay mistake

Post » Thu Jul 03, 2014 9:14 am

When I did Muiri's DB quest, I didn't kill Nilsine.

Thing is, there was no reason for that. My character is a cold mercenary.

Then I thought, maybe she thought Muiri was whiny and annoying and turned down her petty request.

But even that isn't good enough. Why pass up on easy money?

Oh, and to avoid making too many threads, a second question.

Is it embarrassing for a warrior to pay the face sculptor a visit?

Sometimes I want to change my character's appearance but then I have to deal with the fact that he's getting a surgery.

I try to headcanon that he looked that way all along and Galathil never happened, or that the hair or beard grew naturally. But still, I never feel completely comfortable.

That is not a RP mistake, that was simply a mistake, you forgot. not sure how that is such a HUGE issue? i do stuff that might be out of character a lot, and have never felt some sort of deep uncomfortably. It is a game, whether you like it or not, your character is not real, you are not controlling some real person.

1. Would it be too much of a stretch to say she probably forgot about killing Nilsine before it was too late? Taking care of Alain was probably a pain by itself.

2. This isn't supposed to be aimed at you specifically, but why is there this idea that warriors (or any class) have the exact same personality and mannerisms? Would your character be embarrassed about it? That's something you should be asking yourself, but since you didn't, I'll be asking the question. So would they?

Isn't that the point of RP? Should we all just play the game to metagame and become uber-powerful potatoes?

Its an easy mistake to work around. Maybe you didn't kill her because you knew her or something. She was a bonus for the job only, the contract was not for her. The one who really wronged everyone is dead so... all is right. besides if you

Spoiler
kill the girl in Windhelm then her mother commits suicide, you'll find her body in the house with a note on her about how losing her daughters was to much to live with.

I see no reason not to use the face sculptor. I visit her to change war paints and maybe get a hair cut.

There is only one instance where bringing up the fact that a character or story isn't real is relevant.

When you have literal romantic feelings for them or just about any extreme level of emotion that affects your daily life.

Outside that, any displeasure is warranted. It's also the natural result of making a decision you regret later.

Nilsine reminded her of someone she once knew - lover/sister/whoever - and she couldn't go through with the murder. You don't need an elaborate backstory; it was someone she tried to protect, but couldn't (she doesn't like talking about it). Have her go on a skooma bender for a few days and then sober up and get back to cold mercenary.

I would just treat a trip to the face sculptor as a trip to the barber shop and not think of it as surgery. Get the look you enjoy so you can have fun playing.

Yeah, sometimes the simplest solution is the best.

Who knows. It's one of the few subjects where I can't and won't put my personal views away.

I just don't think it fits the whole medieval fantasy theme.

I RP all the time, but making a huge deal about doing slightly out of character? maybe i am just used to table-top gaming, where players do that sort of thing all the time (looting everything, even when their characters might not do that sort of thing for example).

So what, you forgot, big deal.

Also, how do you make a uber-powerful potato? Is there a mod that makes that potatoes a race? if not, there should be.

highlighted the word that makes the whole thing moot, magic can be and is literally the answer for EVERYthing. I always assumed the face sculptor used magic to change your character's face.

Honestly, that tends to be my go-to reason because I'm ridiculously forgetful myself and I actually do forget about things in-game from time to time. I'll be in Riften to speak to Wylandriah to get some spells and deliver something to Madesi on the way and then completely forget about delivering the ore until I'm miles away from there. Unfortunately that's a trait that some characters can't avoid because it's a limitation of my own (and I sometimes handwave it as it happening anywyays even though in-game I'm forced to quick travel back and do it).

Anyways, if you feel that's too simple, then just mull it over for a while and eventually you'll find a reason to avoid killing Nilsine. Though that works for me since I tend to "figure out" my characters as I play the game unless I've played them before.

As for the second part, what part of it do you feel doesn't fit? Nirn isn't exactly your typical medieval fantasy (the the magical space ships and stargates easily set it apart).

And you didn't answer my question. *3*
What kind of character is your warrior? Why would they avoid to do such a thing?

Some people like having a cohesive story. I feel it's better to help come to a compromise than just saying extremely unhelpful like "don't worry about it, they're not real and there's nothing you can do about it" since the OP asked for help. Especially since this is a single-player game and you're not inconveniencing anyone by going the extra mile with your roleplaying.
