Geoff Keighley at QC 2014 - is anyone else annoyed?

Post » Sun Jul 06, 2014 3:45 pm

So I was skimming through the "Special Events Schedule" at www.quakecon.org and noticed "The Bonus Round with Geoff Keighley"

I can't be the only one that would define his personality as "punchable".

How is this guy able to claw his way into anything and everything game-oriented?

I can already see the annoying and condescending interviews playing out in my mind, he hardly even needs a "bonus round" to send me crashing into a coma.

I like Geoff. He seems like he's genuinely into video games unlike a lot of other gaming personalities.

This is incredibly evident every year when the poor man has to co-host with a "celebrity gamer." Last year was Joel McHale. Poor Geoff just wanted to learn more about upcomming games, while Joel would digress and derail the developers into talking about stupid things like what he was learning about the developers at that very moment.

Not surprised at all. I think he was there last year. The reason he goes everywhere is because he's a veteran of the industry. He is at that stage in his career where he can choose where to go not be told.

At least its not Joel McHale...

And Geoff actually knows whats up, so it shouldn't be that bad.

I've had a grudge against Geoff long before the VGX awards. I never get the feeling he's into video-games, I get the feeling he's been forcibly doing his homework about them. I also hate watching him interview people, it's like he tries to answer the question as he poses them as if he is looking for the developer to answer the question in a very particular way. Then once he finally lets the developers talk about their game he always abruptly cuts in and poses another speculative half-answered question mid-sentence.

When I watch him interview people I feel like the guy from clockwork orange in the scene where he get's brainwashed, I feel like I'm being strapped in and forced to watch him as if I'm actually there to see him (and not the developers) pretty soon I'll be getting nauseous at the sight of anything game-related.

King Geoff, of game journalism - rules his ranch/kingdom atop Mount Dew in the cool ruins of El Dorito. His shining smile is rumored to give even the mightiest of warriors crushing headaches. He has beaten around all the bushes in his vast kingdom.
