Best strings for an acoustic guitar?

Post » Thu Jul 10, 2014 12:41 am

The strings on my guitar were getting rather old and were in need for a replacement. Today, while practicing, my high E string decided it was it's time to go. I slapped a cheapo string on there so I could keep practicing (even though the sound is a bit off on that string) but now it's time I replace them all.

I practice about two hours a day and play country, classical and folk music. I play with a pick mostly but sometimes I do finger picking. My guitar is an Epiphone AJ 18SCE EB. A google search led me to Elixir's Polyweb strings, but I'd like some additional input. Any ideas?

These things are subjective of course. I love Elixirs: great sound & feel, wipe 'em down with a microfiber cloth when you're done playing and they last forever. Well, not technically forever, but heck of a lot longer than anything else I've used. I rarely use anything else anymore.

Depends, if you're just starting out you should just order some cheap ones, I got three sets for £6 on eBay. Lots of spares and they haven't broke yet (been about 6 months). I'm on electric though.

OObviously if you're more advanced than you'll be looking for the best sound etc. So I can't really help you there.

I'm rather fond of Elixir's as well.
