It seems to me from reading posts on this forum over the past few days that there are two distinct types of "immediate crash" scenarios:
1. Some people claim that the game crashes just a few seconds into launching at all. For me, I see literally the first two title screens of the game, and it crashes: roughly 2-3 seconds.
2. Other people seem to be claiming that the intro movie of the game (wouldn't know what it looks like, as my game crashes too early) plays, but then the game crashes.
Various unsuccessful solutions (at least for me) have been posted, including:
- Copying specifically tailored a file named d3d9.dll file into your Steam's Fallout New Vegas directory.
- Disabling various audio/video codecs (which, by the way, is not a solution most of us could ever live with, as we need them to watch and edit audio and videos, etc.)
- Using various Windows 7 "compatibility modes".
- Disabling background software, such as anti-virus programs.
- Re-installing the game.
- Editing the game's configuration file.
It also seems to me that there are various commonalities among us on our systems:
- Many if not most of us are running either Windows 7 32bit or Windows 7 64 bit.
- Many if not most of us having various models of nVidia graphics cards, seemingly newer models.
Other than trying the above fixes in various forms and combinations (I have tried many, including with many system restarts, etc.), what else could we do? The only other option I can imagine is finding this error in some sort of log file. I do know understand Windows 7 log files well enough to even know where to look, or if such a thing exists.
So, knowing empirically what we know as a combined group, what else do we or don't we know about our shared plight?
