Tank Games?

Post » Thu Jul 10, 2014 11:57 pm

So... When I was at a friend's house, I was able to play "World of Tanks" on the X360 for free (online multiplayer only game) and had fun with it so kinda want to play it or something similar to it again on my PC...

However, I cannot play "World of Tanks" itself due to it being an internet based game (and I have slow slow dial-up)... So am wondering if anybody else know any similar games like that which can be played offline with bots? (Kinda similar to Unreal Tournament or Battlefront. Not a singleplayer campaign mode).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLuYBVHF8-s. It's like Quake with tanks! It's a tank racing/arena game. It doesn't have a story (which I'm glad for since it's pretty weird) and the bot's AI is decent. You probably have to find a physical copy of it somewhere though.

Try this site http://slitherine.com/, they have a number of battle simulators available. Panzer Corps look interesting. While you have to purchase it online, they do give you the option of a boxed set which they'll ship to you.

I'll check out the site but do want to ask. Battle simulators do cover all genres, right? Or is it something specific? ("World of Tanks" was more of a shooter/RTS mixed game).

That would depend on the game I guess. Mainly they're going to be strategy of some sort, but it will depend on what approach the developer takes with it. I haven't really played any of them myself, so I can't really offer very much in the way of advice. I just know after looking at the titles there that some of them look interesting. Panzer Corps in particular. I downloaded a demo of it awhile back but I never got around to trying it out. I already have too many games to play as it is.

Oh, um, sorry. It's certainly no battle simulator, but I've always found it fun. A neat feature is the terrain is totally deformable, so you can make craters with your weapons. There's no crosshairs, so combat relies heavily on being able to line your cannon up with your opponent. There's also some really weird designs for tanks, so you'll have an M-1 Abrams fighting a tank that's made out of liquid.

Ah. I don't have many games to play honestly myself and I have games for specific reasons.

I love the Slitherine games. Panzer is heavily a strategy game though unlike the world of tanks. It's pretty darn amazing though.

I went on a spree awhile back after I started a new job so I currently have a backlog to get through. Plus I already had a number that I either hadn't gotten around to or hadn't completely finished. Unfortunately I'm a bit of a pack rat when it comes to games. Yet I keep playing some of the same ones over and over again. Like the Fallout games.

I picked up Pandora: First Contact through them. Not bad, but it's been awhile since I've played it. The recent additions have changed the game considerably by the sounds of it, so I should really dust it off someday.
