Fixing Minimise to Desktop in Windows 8.1

Post » Sat Jul 12, 2014 6:21 am

I keep getting instances in Skyrim where it randomly mimises to desktop (not CTD). I've found solutions online, but they refer to a "Disable Visual Themes" option in the Compatibility tab of Properties in Skyrim.exe, but this isn't available for Windows 8. Is there another solution to this infuriating problem?

Most of the time, this is due to windows performing something in the background. As fas as I'm concerned, it's never happened in W8. Maybe it's because I do not allow W to automatically install updates? Nor do I allow any other programs (Adobe, for example) to install updates without my consent. You should dig that way and see what happens. :)

Already done. I use Razer Game Booster and Advanced System Care to deactivate unnecessary processes while it's running. Also, it never actually seems to be doing anything when it skips out - no update notifications or anything.

I'm not sure that using programs that shut down processes is wise.

As soon as the game minimize, can you check the Windows Event Viewer ???

It could be that some application tries to run the same time, as your game minimize to the desktop.

Start -> type event viewer

under Windows Logs -> Application (should be the first post)

Razor has worked for me without any problems so far. Did you try using its diagnostic feature?
