Can you guys recommend any good ones? Preferably not Star Wars or Star Trek. Something in a decent series would be great. Thanks in advance.

The A Space Odyssey novels are pretty good. I once read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3001:_The_Final_Odyssey in high school and remember it described the moon Europa very imaginatively. And don't forget, if you didn't already, to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's super trippy.
