Argentina SHOULD have won that game. Wine-stocker or whatever his name is, is an absolute wuss. I've never seen someone flop and fall over that many times in a game. Though Germany had fewer chances, they capitalized on them, and thus they deserved to win. Argentina really choked it out at key points, which was disappointing to me. Being an American, I'd never root for the Germans, even if they only beat us 1-0.

I feel that if Di Maria would have played, things would be different right now. Argentina could have gotten won goal had he been on the field (healthy).

Lookout for those silver medals on ebay tomorrom. Messi's Golden Ball will probably be up there too.

What a load of [censored] giving Messi the award for best player. He hasn't even been the best player in the Argentina team, let alone the tournament as a whole.

If they have to give it to a player from the final for the sake of convenience rather than picking the player who has genuinely been the best, then it should have gone to Mascherano.

Maybe that's why they had extra time on top of the extra time in extra time?
Yeah, wtf is up with the American pop music.

Somebody messed with the Argentine national football team Wikipedia page; thankfully it was restored.

I was rooting for Argentina but I'm glad the Germans won without the help of the referees. Argentina played rather good in this game; many thought the Germans were going to humiliate the Argentinians.

So we end tied with the most goals for a World Cup, and the biggest chunk of those were scored by Germany.

Germany was all around the best team in the tournament, and they deserved this. Although I would have been happy if Argentina had pulled it out too. They had been solid defensively throughout. But they needed someone to step up besides Messi. If you can't finish the chances they had in this game...

Neuer with the Golden Glove. No complaints there. But the North American keepers (except Honduras) certainly did an outstanding job.

Glad James Rodriugez gets the Golden Boot too. Even Germany's tournament-winner looked like an homage to James.

Is the Golden Ball a consolation prize now? That's what it seems like.

No that was because Schweinsteiger spent so much time rolling around on the turf.

And pretty sure Argentina team and fans didn't want to hear "Happy" right now :P

He rightfully looked a bit embarrassed accepting it if you ask me.

He should do the right thing and reject it. There are so many players more deserving of that award. I'm not even sure Messi has been in the top 10 of the tournament.

Argentina hung well in there. It's Higuain and Palacio with their scoring chances who should be criticized, not Messi. Good, deserved win for Germany. Great tournament overall for Germany, and great tournament overall, period! :)

Totally agree with this. Although Messi will naturally get more criticism just because there were more expectations on him. Great tournament though.

The only thing I find nasty about the WC is that all the players are kissing the Cup one after another. I hope no one has hepatitis. ^^

Well done, Deutschland. :)

Schweinsteiger did do a lot of embellishing that match, but he was hardly the worst during this cup. I point you towards Brazil.... :P

....Do you mean Schweinsteiger?

You're accusing the first person to ever earn the Purple Heart in a football game of diving? Did you SEE him after the match?

joint 3rd best goalscorer with an assist and before the final he created the most chances of any player in the world cup...

if the Argentina forwards took the chances he created then they would have won the world cup.

I feel for Messi, I hope his career isn't tarnished because of this. The rest of the forwards really let the team down not messi.

Edit:

Germany were good can't complain at them winning the world cup but it would have been truly special to see Messi lift it...

His reaction to the hit where he was bleeding was legitimate, but there were a number of times where he was rolling around when he did not need to be. That bit right before Messi's last free kick was especially blatant.

Dempsey broke his nose on the field and kept going with a minimum of fuss. That is what badass looks like, not Schweinsteiger.

I think Messi is a great example he is quite humble, doesn't flop or roll around, and just plays the sport well. I swear Schweinsteiger was on the ground at least a dozen times during this whole world cup.
