Doing a clean install, what mods to add?

Post » Tue Jul 15, 2014 4:01 am

Mess around moding, took a break, and starting over again. I see there is a mod for the Civil War. It says you need to start a new game. So I believe this will be my final start but plan to finish everything this time, I would like to know what mods to install, that needs you to start a new game.

Heck what mods should I be installing anyways. Finaly was able to install Nexus Mod Manager for the first time. No idea why I always had problems with it, but using it for the first time now. I belive I need BOSS as well. So what are other musts I should be using as well?

Skyrim Redone is best used with a brand new character.

Try LOOT instead of BOSS. I think you'll love it.

There are thousands of mods out there that suits many different needs.

Having a mod manager is a good thing since it does help with installing and updating mods.

Boss or Loot is a useful tool to help with load orders and can help with fixing load issues. If you are only using a few mods than this tool might not be needed but the more mods you are using the more this tool is needed.

TES5 Edit program can help with cleaning up files and such. I have not used since when I played the game I only used a few mods at max. Also quite a few of the mod makers do a good job of cleaning the mods now.

SKSE: Is needed by quite a few mods out there and especially from a few of the popular ones. Such as Skyui

Skyui: Many people do not like the UI in Skyrim. I actually like the UI in Skyrim but still quite often I do have to install since a few mods I like need it due to MCM. Fortunately for me there is SkyUI addon that brings back the the Vanilla UI but still would like if MCM was a separate mod.

Then you have the unofficial patches. Get the ones you need and make sure they are placed in the correct place.

Thank you guys installed BOSS and Skyui. A lot easier and smoother with the Mod Manager. How do I know what the proper load order is? Do I let BOSS do it automatically? That is what I thought it did.

First piece of advice I can give you is to not use the Civil War Overhaul, I've heard there's some issues with it (maybe not supported anymore) hopefully someone else can let you know for sure, but I've stayed away from it, because I've heard of issues with it.

I would definitely use most of Arthmoor's mods like : When Vampires Attack , Run For Your Lives, The Paarthanux Dilema and others.

Also highly recommend Skyrim Immersive Creatures (commonly known as SiC).

Also, High Level Enemies ( since you plan on doing everything in game this playthru, you'll end up getting into high exp lvls)

Also, Elys Community Uncapper (this way you can level skills past 100)

Maybe give a good super follower mod a shot too, such as: Vilja (my absolute favorite, it adds soo much, besides just a follower, but also a very good intuitive follower), or Inigo, or Arissa

After you get thru the Bethesda DLC's , some new worldspace mods. I highly recommend Helgen Reborn , Falskaar, Wyrmstooth, and Moonpath to Elsweyr.

If you aren't using an ENB, and have a half decent PC... Realistic Water TWO , and SMIM (static mesh improvement mod), and Better Dynamic Snow.

Achieve That ! ---adds achievements & rewards into Skyrim

Interesting NPC's !!!!!!!!! <-- very very topnotch mod that adds ALOTTTTT to the game.

Inconsequential NPC's <--- just adds more people to the game, making areas seem more 'alive'

Sounds of Skyrim and Climates of Tamriel mods, those add a lot of ambience to the game.

And of course the most important mods: SKSE, Skyui, all the relavent unofficial patches, and of course use LOOT (it has pretty much replaced BOSS, and is VERY good and the 'goto' load order doodad ).
