I was shocked as I didn't even know Mexicans played the game. Listening to the conversation, the American Football game that had the highest ever attendance was in Mexico City. Is this true?
Does anyone know if this has any real fact behind it?
The NFL wants to expand, they make more money that way. Europe and Mexico/South America are two places that they are looking to expand to. They have played exhibition games and lately even regular season games in Europe and Mexico to drum up support. However the teams hate the travel (Mexico is probably not too bad, but the trip to Europe svcks for the Jet Lag and then the game right after the trip.
Will it take off? Who knows, Mexico and Europe are Soccer fans more than Football fans, so it's hard to say. The NFL Europe experiment did not do that well, so it's hard to say.

According to this, Association Football is the most popular sport in Mexico, as expected. Baseball is apparently popular in regions of Mexicio, as is Basketball, but there's no mention of American-Football. As with any country, though, there are bound to be sizeable minorities with dissenting opinions from the rest of the country - I'm sure there are people in Mexico who like NFL.
Here in the UK, a lot of people I know have started wearing American-Football jerseys and getting friends round to watch the Superbowl - if only for the event itself since NFL is very rarely televised here and most of us are unfamiliar with the rules, or find it boring. Only die-hard football fans tend to do this for the Champions League Final, even though the Champions League Final is usually one of the highest rated shows in the country, and is the last 3 years is the most viewed sports event in the world.Maybe as Soccer spreads in the US so to are US sports spreading elsewhere.
The game is popular, but to which extent I do not know.
Many universities do have at least one team, there is even a classis played between the biggest universities in the country, the UNAM (National Autonomous University of México) and IPN (National Polytechnic Institute).
I know that several members of my family follow the sport and, according to a poll that I found, it is the sixth sport in terms of popularity. I am not certain how reliable is the poll, but is the only one that I found.
After further research, I found that even the Presidential Guard has a team.
I am not quite sure how are the teams organized.
