Mod downloading help needed

Post » Thu Jul 17, 2014 3:26 pm

I'm having a problem downloading large mods from Nexus, and hoped to get some advice from other users. I have Win7 and IE 11 and download all my mods manually, but mods over a few dozen megabytes are giving me a lot of trouble.

Perfect example is SIMM, download carries on for a bit then is interrupted. When I click resume it carries on for a few minutes then is changed to a complete state, but alas the file is incomplete and unable to resume. This has been the case for several days now, and I cannot nail down the problem. I've tried compatibility settings, cleaning of browser, reset of my router, and checked with my ISP. I've not had this problem linger on so long as this before. I've a heavily modded game with all these downloads from Nexus from previous playtroughs, but I'm at an impasse with this round of updates. I've already updated many of the small mods with only minor hic-ups, but I am stuck when it comes the large files.

I appreciate any tips on what to check or look for, many thanks.

Edit: I use Microsoft Security Essentials as well, nothing detected as of yet.

I stopped using IE along time ago for downloads. It dl's the file to a temporary location then transfers it to where you want it stored (usually downloads). What can happen is if the temporary file is thought to be complete (which happens on most files that get interrupted) then IE will not download the file again but use the cached copy.

You can try clearing out your temp internet files and downloading again. Or, you can use Firefox which has a much better download manager built in.

This is probably the source of your problem. Try any reason you aren't using Chrome or Firefox?

Thank you both, I've assumed IE has been the biggest part of my delima. I have just used it so long now it's habit mainly anyway, downloaded Firefox and playing with it a bit. Wish me luck!

It's not IE, it's the Nexus.

sirgeoff, you may need to open the manual download link in a new window/tab and keep doing that until you can download your file. My wife and I have been having the same issue with Opera and opening up a new tab is the only thing that seems to fix it.

If you still have problems perhaps consider trying a download manager. I use DownThemAll! with Firefox.

You can use the Nexus Mod Manager to download the mods and then manually install the mods afterwards. That is about the only way I can get mods larger than a few megs to download without corruption.

I have tried with Downthemall and I still have corrupted downloads. With Nexus I have not had any issues, unless the site was having issues and since there was the summer sale it has been a hit or miss with downloading from there.

Well so far I like Firefox It seems much more responsive, need time to play with it. Unfortunately the problem still persists, I tried Jac's suggestion and switched to a seperate page with dowloads. I am still getting a "completed" download with only a 25% download. This is what bothers me most is the completed part, can't resume or do anything with it. I was used to it happening occasionaly but it's just consistant now and I still have 4-6 "big" mods to complete.

Sorry, if this topic is slightly out of place in the mods forum, but i've ghosted this site for years and I love the community. The work done here is amazing and the helpfullness of the vast majority is very well done in all aspects, I've learned quite a bit. Thank you all for that.

I have NMM still so I'll dust it off and update for a try while I keep checking out the Firefox apps like the one mentioned.
