Lmao, they just cut out the stream before DooM reveal. This is just sad. Really this is not the way to treat so many of your fans around the world.

Geoff keighley just said it's running on id tech 6 on his twitter account.

So....? What's new?

As a fan and as a person who has played every game id has made I was looking forward to seeing the new DooM game reveal on the time they were to show it, however after Tim's speech and stuff the stream went offline... I am so angry right now!! Pre ordering this game was going to happen after but with the hype and excitement to see reveal tonight was a utter kick in the teeth now Im feeling jaded. As a Fan Im hurt thanks id, Bethesda for killing all excitement out of me and everyone around the world who couldn't attend and was looking forward to seeing it on twitch!!

Fished some information about Doom 4 on the interwebs, it's pouring all over the place, got this from ausgamers, more stuff being mentioned on twitter under #doom and #quakecon2014

  • PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 confirmed, with 1080p 60FPS targetted on all platforms.
  • It is built on the id Tech 6 engine, a new iteration of id Software's impressive tech.
  • Levels demonstrated were set in a research facility on mars, true to doom's heritage.
  • Shotgun, Plasma Rifle, Rocket Launcher and Chainsaw were present, with procedural/dynamic damage on enemies.
  • A wheel interface was used to switch between the multitude of weapons.
  • "its not about taking cover and letting your health regenerate", armour and health pickups were shown dropping from vanquished enemies.
  • Focus was very much on combat with fast movement pace.
  • Coloured keys and doors were mentioned, and a dead character's arm was ripped off to use a palm scanner.
  • Enemies noticed include undead marines, imps, revenants, two barons of hell, a mancubus and pinky demons, Oshry described "whole rooms of demons".
  • Double jumping was noted with a "light parkour" element", and some gory finishing moves.
  • Oshry, who was instrumental in the recent remake of Rise of the Triad described the Doom demo as "slower for sure" than the original games, but noted that "Our ROTT was a straight 90s remake. This is definitely more evolved but still faithful.

Stuff From twitter..

The style is a lot like Doom 3... Blood on the floors, particle effects everywhere. Troy Swanson (@gerphimum)

PC gamer..

The stream is off and it’s Doom 4 time. First up: the trailer we saw a few weeks ago. Next: exec producer Marty Stratton.
“The game is called Doom, not Doom 4. It’s an origin game, reimagining everything about the originals.”–Stratton
“The game begins just outside of a massive research facility on the surface of Mars.”–Stratton
Today’s reveal will focus on combat, which is what the team has been focusing on.
First combat mechanic: demons. Mechanical, corrupt, hell knights.
Second mechanic: guns. Conventional guns. “Big” guns. The double barrel shotgun got a round of applause.
Doom will focus on high-speed movement and run-and-gun. Just like the old days.
Just saw some stills of an exterior, street-size level. Some combat will be hand-to-hand.
There will be a live gameplay demo on stage.
Doom will run on idTech 6, according to Stratton. Will support 1080p, 60 frames per second.
Gameplay demo getting started. Tons of gray steel walls, flames, and a shotgun that is comically large.
A key feature will be stunning enemies with a shot, then smashing their face with your boots. It’s happened five times already.
A new twist on finding the yellow keycard: year off a corpse’s arm and use it to open a handprint scanner.
Breaking: barrels just exploded. Repeat, we have exploding barrels.
Doesn’t look like health regenerates. Enemies drop health when you squish them.
A demon just ripped the player’s arms off and beat him to death with them. The room is breaking out into a standing ovation.
An adorable custodial droid is trying to clean up all the blood. It is not succeeding.
The player is now exploring a dank, Mars cave system. This looks like some of the atmospheric horror from Doom 3.
The hand-to-hand kill moves are varied and fantastically gory. And here comes the chainsaw.
There’s a huge variety of enemies on display. Small demons swarming with giant bullet-sponges.
And the demo ends with the reveal of the giant, horned demon we saw in the teaser. An explosive demo, and more than we thought we’d see.

PC gamer also has an article up on it already which I'm reading right now..

Sounds like a whole lot of brutal doom with a whole lot of QTE's. I still going to reserve judgement till I see it for myself. AAAAAAND what's new with id tech 6? MODDING? And hell no, don't care about 60fps. Come back when I can take it to 120

Yup, I'm very excited to learn what's going on with id Tech 6, I hope it's significant.

QTE? you're thinking about the executions? I'm thinking that would be something on par with WTNO melee kills.

I'm just thinking of what Carmack wanted... sparse voxel octree? Of course, Carmack is gone and that may have never been implemented.

Global illumination? Extreme dynamic destructible environment... "mega-geometry?" ... things

Well it all sounds really cool......but mars? Really? Wasn't expecting that at all. Everyone was hoping for hell on earth....hmm. Well anyway if what is said is true then I'm just thinking id's just evolved old-good doom to new presentation standarts but leaving everything pretty much classic way?))

But I'm gonna hold my breath untill I see it))

Might be Sparse Voxel Octree, Raytracing, Dynamic Global Illumination... Those that watched the demo didn't exactly mention anything about these things.

If only we had a leaked video, or if I was there myself. I would anolyze the [censored] out of every millisecond available to me.

You can't know for sure what Carmack implemented before he left, maybe there wasn't much left for him to do on id Tech 6..

I don't think it's like Carmack to simply leave things half-finished.

Lava was mentioned (maybe something similar to the Unreal Engine 4 "elements" tech demo?) dynamic flowing liquids? Will that work for blood as well?

So much speculation to be done.

True the demo was on Mars, but that doesn't mean the entirety of the game will necessarily take place on Mars.

Ok so it is just the reimagining in the right way, not doom 3 way. I'm happy))

Why not! We already have lots of liquid in Wolf. It is a question how tricky the programming is.

I think that it is a true doom reimagining with phobos deimos and hell. It is logical choice. Then to make a sequel Hell on earth)))

If they want new fan base then it is right decision. After all Doom was born on Mars)))

Wolf doesn't really have any though, just 'liquid' meshes and splash particles like Rage and older games.

When I think of liquid being truly dynamic I think of units the size of drops, like water drops or blood drops. I can't see it being done in a game where so many monsters will have blood, and so many can show up on screen at once. Too much physics liquid going on.

You're right that it's a question of how tricky the programming is of course, so who knows, they may be pulling all sorts of miracles!

Verticality! Really appreciate that. Doom 3 really lacks it. Chaotic combat wich is close to what we can see in doom 2. I can't believe it. Did they really make it?

I think we are just getting ahead of ourselves. For all we know they got rid of megatextures and went back to a traditional engine. I hope not but not one person said anything about the graphics in the game.

Highly doubt that! Just imagine what amasing hell vistas could be achieved with megatextures. Maybe they found the way to get rid of pop-in.

Besides 1080/60 with tons of enemies....smells like it's still megabacking.

everything is a big maybe right now. Because most people did not see anything, and everyone who saw it were too excited to scrutinize anything

Doesn't sound possible, pop-in just means streaming, and streaming is what virtual texturing is all about.

Really guys? Texture pop in is the only thing that bothers you now? Flying revenants that tear off your hands and shove them in to your chest is just a non important stuff))))))

If id Tech 6 is anywhere near the speculations we've come up with here we might be having entirely new technical problems on our hands.

Maybe that is the reason for the beta testing, maybe they learned a lesson with the initial tech problems on RAGE.

Either way, I'm going to enjoy the hell out of that beta no matter how bugged it is.
