Uninstalling Climates of Tamriel = Crash

Post » Wed Jul 30, 2014 1:12 pm

Like the title says, crash right after initial loading screen.

I have run TESVEDIT and cleaned update.esm, dawnguard.esm, and dragonborn.esm as those were the only files showing errors with LOOT.

Does anyone know what the issue might be and how I can fix it? Reactivating CoT works fine but I want to switch from CoT to the new PureWeather mod.

Just uninstall it. It should not cause a problem, there are no scripts.

However, if you have created any patches or installed any 3rd party patches or supporting mods for CoT then you'll need to remove those as well.

For example the CoT Weather Patch, the patch for Minty's lighting mod, the Falskaar patch, etc. etc...

Also, if it were me I would first force a vanilla weather using the console (e.g. "fw 81a" ) then go inside a home and save the game before removing the mod.

If you are in the middle of a CoT thunder storm and you try to load a save game (which will try to load that weather system) I don't know what would happen !!!

Thanks for replying Mark.

I just use CoT without any patches for other mods. Uninstalling it will cause the crash and reinstalling it has Skyrim loading normally.

In preparation for a new ENB I want to use I changed some setting on my Nvidia Control Panel for AA, Ambient Occlusion, FXAA. Would that have an effect on this issue?

Overhaul mods can be tricky. I think there are some weather mods that don't like to be removed. Make sure you read as much as you can before using.

Generally, CTD on start up caused by a missing master file. (...an .esp requires another .esp or a .esm to work and it's not present).

Run Tes5edit and it will tell you what the missing master file is.

For the effects that ENB is replacing, it's documented exactly on the ENB's author page, if you should enable AA or not.

Hardware AA (msaa) supported in ENB series 0.119 and lower for all effects, all other version use deferred rendering which do not support AA.

But in latest mods (starting from v0.180 if i remember, including v13.7.13) you may enable AA, many effects will turn off automatically then, but in general colors will be the same.

I hate to sound lame but what exactly do I need to do with TES5EDIT? I ran the .exe file that comes with it and it generated a list of my mods. I cleaned the ones mentioned above because LOOT said there were issues with them. Is there something else that I need to do?

CTD at the logo screen is typically a mod dependency issue.

Load all of your plugins in TES5Edit. If TES5Edit stops loading and bounces an error message, the plugin that halts the loading and generates the error is the plugin that is missing a master.

If that's the case here...

Thanks! So if I find the plugin that is missing a master, how do I fix it? Reinstall that mod?

Some mods require some "dirt". You might be cleaning out a file you need. Did you clean anything other than the update and dlc esms?

You can do it via NMM manager, but with Tes5edit it's much easier.

Look at this video please: Skyrim Crash on Startup FIX : Part 1 (Troubleshooting your Load Order)
