What classes would I take in Uni to learn the art of film making? Is film school as much of a joke as people say? What can I do in the meantime to practice the art of directing, editing, and the like?

Watch good movies and cult classics oh and TV shows too. Can recommend a ton, do tell what are you into ...Favorite genre/director? Are you a younger or older movie enthusiast?

EDIT: Oh and I have a weird habit when I go to bed.... I direct in my imagination a film of my choosing, it can be based on a video game or whatever strikes your fancy one day .... It helps a lot to keep an active imagination . If you draw good you can also draw scenes from your head
