Skyrim on Laptop

Post » Sat Aug 02, 2014 10:32 pm

So I'm not sure if I'm posting this one in the right forum but here we go anyway.

Up until now I've always played Skyrim on xbox, however I will soon be switching to playing on a computer. I always here that the game is just so much better with mods and on a computer and this I'm excited to get started.

However the one problem I have is that I'm not sure what laptop I should get so I can run the game as well as mods smoothly. Now I know lots of people will say it's better to build my own PC or get a good desktop, but right now that's really not a realistic option for me.

So what I'm asking is: does anyone know of any laptops that can run Skyrim and a lot of mods smoothly? Also if there's additional stuff I should be getting to help with that like certain graphics cards or programs to download that's help it run etc.

Thanks for any help.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:System_Requirements has a page that will be a good place to start.

I know you seem adamantly set on getting a laptop... but I would try to reconsider if at all possible. Pending your current TV and it's HDMI acceptance you will end up using the same TV.. the same controller and playing the same as you do on your Xbox... only on steroids.

Then there is http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1472493-unofficial-will-my-pc-run-skyrim-thread-63/ for the best overall help.

If you want really heavy graphics mods and 60 fps I would not recommend a laptop unless you want to shell out like 1600 dollars. Which to me doesn't make sense. Build a thousand dollar tower and buy a flatscreen TV instead.

I personally play on a $600 Toshiba S-50 I got for work and I play on high. I used to use 2k textures but it was a bit laggy because I have a discrete graphics card (actually dual graphics card) but with only a little more than a gig of vram.

I tweaked the game's look using performance soft mods like Imaginator, Dynavision, ELFX and CoT and it looks really good now! I play around 30 fps in the open world and 60 in interiors. Otherwise I run some gameplay mods, sound mods and convenience mods.

The issue with laptops could be that really script heavy mods in addition to heavy texture mods will cause issues. For example, I couldn't use Duke Patrick's Combat because of script delay and my weaker system. Skyrim likes lots of VRAM and a big beefy processor, so building a tower is always the way to go imho.
