Pure Mage with no Staves or Destruction Spells

Hi everyone! I am currently having a blast with my level 40 Redguard vampire hunter! Resto+1h+Archery+Light Armor+Enchanting

I just wrapped up Dawnguard! The only questline on this character actually.

I'm debating something I haven't tried before and want some advice. I want to roll an Altmer or Breton pure mage but I don't want to use staves or destruction. I want all my DPS to come from summons and I want to cast support spells in Illusion, Alteration and Restoration.

Will this be terrible and boring or fun? Has anyone tried this? I have trouble playing mages because I feel I simply obliterate everything with fireballs and I don't feel any incentive to use support spells, so I figured this could be an interesting build to redeem my view of magic based characters.

I would like some rules like minimal inventory, preferably no potions or alchemy. And I would prefer to stay away from Enchanting but I will buy gear. Will I nerf myself too hard??

Also any RP rules are greatly appreciated, like white mage no necromancy or only healing with food, that sort of thing.

Advice?

That's definitely a doable build. Between Illusion and Conjuration, you should be able to do lots of damage. Recommend leveling Sneak, even if your character doesn't do backstabbing, they can stay out of the way while your fury spells and minions are decimating the enemy. Also, if dragons show up, you can sneak away instead of having to bother with them.
