I am still in White run, and am running around on quests with Lydia as my companion. Unfortunately, I decided to use her to carry some equipment I found so that I could sell it for gold, which was a mistake on my part. I accidentaly sold some of her gear somewhere! I would like to keep her as a companion, so I am wondering....what kind of gear should I buy here? Would this work....?

- Heavy Armor items

- Single handed sword (or should it be two handed?)

- Shield

- Bow

- Arrows

If I get her the bow AND sword, does she switch automatically as needed? I thought she did, but can not recall.

You seem to have it spot on from what I can tell. By default Lydia uses a sword+shield and heavy armor, and I believe that if you hand her a bow and arrows she should switch between those depending on the situation. Don't expect her to always use a bow from a distance and only switch to her sword when the enemy gets too close, she's not that clever, I believe she'll usually stick with her trusty sword and shield, which makes her an excellent tank.

I put Lydia in ebony armor, and thought it made her look awesomely sixy. And it protects like a brick wall, too.
