Where is H0RSE?

Post » Fri May 14, 2010 9:33 am

Seriously, where is H0RSE? :l

I've seen alot of threads linking his ''holy compendium of BRINK'' and the like, and alot of ''he's not here anymore'', ''the high priest has left the building'' and all, so where is he?

We'll probably get a new batch of information soon, so who will continue writing his info compendium? Did he have ''apostles''?

The main issues I see are the very strict prophanity filter, the prohibition on discussing and/or advertising of fansites and the lack of actual sub-forums (for factions, weapons, maps; and yes, I do know you Bethesda guys want to set them up at release, but there is absolutely no reason not to do it now).

Edit: And that very annoying "one minute inbetween posts"-lock which makes you unable to write a reply while that lock is still in place.

Also the splash damage site has an IRC chat which is really sweet which might actually clear up a lot of these stupid and redundant threads. And think the mods over there can straight DELETE the nonsense stuff instead of locking it. I've been told on the SD forums that threads here are locked at the 200 post count.

Which is correct because the old forum's software would screw up at threads larger than 200 posts and slow down the whole forum.

I see, well, I guess it's good to be a member of both :P

No forum has sub-forums for classes, maps, and the like yet, but they'll probably come with time

H0RSE is a correspondent for fragword.org. He brought his compendium with him, and re-wrote it (along with pictures and new updates) as a 4 part series. You can check it out here - http://www.fragworld.org/frag/community-blogs/brink-info-pt-1-story-gameplay-smart-classes-and-objectives.html

He also uploads videos - http://www.fragworld.org/frag/fragbook/videos.html?groupid=15

I wish we could be more direct with new people on the forum and advise them to not be morons. But that would make them feel "not included". So the admins have to cater to them as well. I'll probably get another warning just for saying this but oh well.

The moderators might aswell lock it down, my questions have been answered, and for that, I am grateful :)

Also, what do you think of my badly made train, now that there might be a few posts left til lockdown? If it will be locked that is -

As others have mentioned HORSE is with us over at Fragworld. We have a specific Brink Community you can join to get the latest info. Our staff actually meets weekly and he keeps his compendium updated just about every week looking for the latest information. There was no point in keeping it updated here as it is not allowed to be stickied and bumping is not allowed. HORSE is still on top of everything and one of our best staffers. We also have interviews with some of the developers we are lining up, unfortunately we are not allowed to post or link it here.
Also you can only convey so much on forums such as these without being able to post pics and videos.
The reason we do not post links to specific material as we produce it is because though we are fans of the game we post a link it is "advertising" however some guy at IGN who plays the game for 10 mins at E3 writes an article its "news".
We don't make the rules we just follow them. Unfortunately we get a lot of emails and PM's asking why we don't post here and have to answer them, now you know why.

OK. I also deleted a few posts that contravened the forum rules. Guys, please read them, they are stickied at the top of the forum and it saves a lot of aggravation. Thanks.

It's worth remembering that these forums cover a large number of games and the forums rules cover everything here.

Several of the games covered here are 13+ and this does require that some language and topics be curbed. While it may be silly that profanity used in a particular game can't be used on the forums by in large that language isn't going to add anything to the discussions here.

We try and keep the number of forums to a minimum. Where possible this is determined by activity - this section has a very healthy level of activity but it isn't yet crowded so there isn't a pressing reason to open additional sections. If you spread content too thinly because you have lots of forums it's easy to kill the entire section. Additional forums also ramp up the moderation requirements.

If we allow every fansite or fan forum to have it's own thread it would be easy to have the place overrun. Right now this might not be a problem but once the game is released the forum will be far more active and there will be far more people posting about their sites. Having this in one thread not only removes the problem of congestion but also helps us create a fansite index so it is easy for people to find these sites. If a major site is announced now by the time the game is released the thread will likely be covered by several months of new threads. If such threads were constantly being bumped that would result in major congestion issues.

The flood filter is a nuisance but it serves an important purpose. Thankfully the search doesn't require such a hefty delay any more.

Threads are locked at 200 because it helps keep them fresh. This was originally instituted because the forum software was having trouble dealing with how large the forums were and this cap helped relieve that. If there is a thousand post long thread few people are going to read through the whole thing, with the thread locked at 200 and a new iteration posted it gives the thread the benefit of a new OP and lessens the expectation that people will need to read lots of old posts to be up-to-date. Yes this can result in repetitive discussion but this is a problem with long threads as well and at least with the 200 cap you won't see someone quoting posts from page 1 of a 50 page thread.
