What were your disappointments with Skyrim?

I love the game so this isn't a hate thread, I'm just curious about what other people think about the game, what are some ideas that are simple that would have made the game better, I don't want to count in mods, I'm talking strictly stock game.

1. Game engine for me was such a disappointment, the graphics were so bad it took away some immersion from the game, with trees appearing out of no where and unrealistic lighting, and a terrible view distance. Now I know the game was released in 2011 and not that it has the worse graphics ever Crysis 2 came out the same year and that game has some of the best graphics at the time. Now the reason I think the graphics are poor is the Dev team didn't put enough time into trying to max out the games engine, a good example is GTA V was built for the old consoles and that game looks great. Also I don't think the put as much quality into the graphics, they focused more on story and other stuff which is great but I feel like that half-assed the graphics.

2. Gameplay was lacking, the way the charter move and fights is just so animated and not special getting into melee combat was boring. The gameplay mechanics are so linear, games like Assassins Creed have a much better character feeling, for combat, movement, and just the immersion of control I feel when I play as an assassin. Combat is smooth and fluid allowing you to move from enemy to enemy and even allowing you to defend yourself from ranged archers and use cover to protect yourself or hide. Plus the ability to use parkour around the map is so helpful and allows for an infinite amount of ways to explore and attack.

Other than these two things I love Skyrim, the game is great and I still play it, however without the use of mods the game not modified is pretty undeveloped and is noticeable.

All I hope for the next Elder Scroll game is better gameplay mechanics and a much better graphics engine.

As it happens I just barely finished the main quest like 15 minutes ago for the first time since 2011. I'm really pissed that nobody fricken cares that I just saved the world. There was no one around saying "Wow! Good job. Thank you." Greybeards were nowhere to be found, Jarl Balgruuf had nothing to say, the civilians didn't carry me on their shoulders and throw me a big party... *sigh* Ungrateful is all I'm saying... So that's one disappointment fresh in my mind.

Another big one for me is the lack of armor/clothing and weapons. There are like 3 different weapons, plus two handed variants and the different material types. And bows/crossbows. And I hate how they shoved the pants and shirts together. I'm glad Bethesda is trying to streamline their game, but it's the kind of thing where I feel like people enjoy in-depth character customization in these games, and to take away so much variety really just kinda stinks. If they wanted to sacrifice things, why not half the useless townspeople's names and their dumb, repetitive dialogue.

..what..? What?!

how does Skyrim have bad Graphics? its graphics are actually quite good.. and why do poor Graphics take way from enjoyment of a game? I replayed Might & Magic 2 awhile back, now that has bad graphics but is fun as heck..

most Citizens are not aware Alduin was flying around.. they are only aware Dragons have started showing up again.. now if you wiped out all Dragons, than maybe you would get some recognition (although I remember an old Saying "A true hero does what they do because it needs to be done, not for fame or fortune")

Anyways, to Answer the question: Guilds were a little short, the CW was handled in a terrible fashion, they removed the "pants" armor slot, and clothes wise female characters don't have any options with pants

I went into Skyrim with no preset ideals of what I was hoping to expect. I had dabbled a little in Oblivion but knew little of the series or the lore. So Skyrim didn't leave me disappointed as I had no preconceptions of what was suppose to be or not to be.

The more I play the game I find a few things here and there obviously. I've spent enough time in the game that the plot holes and straw grasping story telling stick out a lot. But I'm ok with that because the trip was still a hell of a ride. And mods fixed just about most of my issues.

1. I think the graphics are suberb, but hey that's me

2. I miss the pants slot, as was stated. Not very long guild quests (as stated) No two ring slots, but I modded that one in. All in all, this is a very enjoyable game. Nice to look at, so many ways to do things, just up to you how you do them. Mod it the hell out and have a ball! So much potential with all the great modders out there.

Skyrim is probably one of the best designed games ..

The game's you mentioned are simplistic and Fun ( if you like those types of games ) and are action/ adventure or shooter genre.. The Elder scroll series is old School Rpging ( ie armor, weapons, spell and Bosses ) and has the elements of a true RPG game and Beths thought it would be nice to make it open world which was a great move..

Try games like Dragon age, Witcher series, and other RPG games they're Formated to the old style of RPGing where the maps are layed out and Finding your way is easy but might get a bit confusing at times.. It may be more up your alley until you get accustomed to the RPG Genre. This game and series are for people that are more familiar to the Genre and want a little more out of their gaming experience..

Not picking on you or trying to start anything it's just what this series has been about and is a working formula..

The graphics are not great. Mods bring things up to snuff.

And I would not say it is the best designed game either. A look at the creation kit, you see a lot of things that are just lolwut. Especially in the scripting.

Anyways, things I was not happy with:

1. Short questlines. Holy crap they were short.

2. Magic. In Oblivion, you could be a god with magic. Create excessive spells that were a ton of fun to use, if not very exciting looking.

3. Little details. The inns don't have room doors and were largely copy/paste. Your character doesn't headtrack. Things like that.

4. Fewer armor combinations.

5. Very small towns, tiny "battles." The engine still can't handle very many people on screen at the same time.

Despite that, I've been playing pretty steadily since 11/11/11.
