About a week ago I decided to give Skyrim a final go. I've tried playing the patriotic Nord dragonborn, the Imperial assassin family man, and quit more times than I can count due to not enjoying the experience that much.
My current character is something I'd normally never go for: A bald dark-elf necromancer vampire inspired by 'Vampire: The Masquerade', no weapons allowed. Honestly didn't think I'd be having this much of a blast, but it's true... It's been kinda great. I've been pretty hard on Skyrim in the past... Then somehow I put in 97 hours the last 7 days. WTF just happened?
Got to be honest though, I still abhor the main questline, Delphine, the Greybeards, practically anything related to the Dovahkiin or Thuum. In a lot of ways I find being forced into the Dovahkiin role, instead of chosing it for myself does a huge disservice to the game. Sure you can avoid it like I'm doing now, but I really can't help but wish they would have created a juicy political story focused around the war effort (ala Game of Thrones) as the main quest and left all the Dragonborn stuff as a side story or DLC instead of vice versa.
