I tried this exploit, and both he and his clone were essential.

Well, beyond not being able to get his stuff, his resurrected form was permanent! He followed me all the way to the sewer exit, but didn't come out with me.

I come back in, and he is alive, and perfectly normal, except his voice was now that of a guard, and he was rambling about ogres, and how he didn't like me!!

Oh, and Baurus followed him the whole way. lol
