Just to get a better idea of what the community is like I was curious to how many people here are a serious person in life and takes things with serious mindset or do things seriously.

Well I'll start. I am a serious person and I don't really know how to turn it off and be light hearted person around my friends, perhaps it has something to do with how I see the world and when I started looking at the world in a realistic perspective. But oh well I learn to live and deal with it.

Chronic seriousness is an unfortunate affliction.

I think a mentally healthy person should be able to respond to life events in an appropriate manner. When events call for humor a well-balanced person should be able to respond with humor; when events call for one to be serious a well-balanced person should be able to be serious.

I'm a wiseass 90% of the time. Yes, it can be obnoxious, but frankly I think that if you can't laugh at the world around you, you're bound to go mad. However, I can be very serious at times, when I feel it's necessary. Certain things you just don't joke about. Even with a snide "Too soon?" tacked on to the end.

Why? Mass butthurt? No. There is no "Too soon".

If I want to joke about something to a friend of mine in a place where only they and I are present, whom I know will find the joke funny, then I will tell the joke. For situations like that, I say [censored] the convictions of the majority.

Depends on location. I have certainly seen people get their asses kicked for telling a really inappropriate joke. They thought it was funny as hell. The grandson of the deceased certainly didn't think so.

Then there is unlikely to be an issue. Fair enough. The problem I had with your comment was the [censored] the majority element in it. That kind if assumes the majority will be informed of the joke in some manner. At least that is how it came off to me. I am certainly guilty of telling jokes that some people would get deeply offended at. I just don't tell it around such people if I can help it, as you yourself seem to do.

Everyone I knows says I'm always so serious and have that straight look on my face 24/7. My close friends know that I'm super-mega-sarcastic and 90% of what I say is not serious at all.

This has lead to problems in the past, what with misinterpretations, but whatever.
