When I look directly at an NPC when it is talking i can't hear him talking, i have to look away from the NPC to hear what he is saying. Someone please help me fix this.

Take a look at the sound settings in your OS configuration panel and make sure it's set on "stereo", not on quadrophonic or whatever other available settings. This goes if you don't use several speakers, of course.
