Abot's "Where Are All Birds Going?"

Post » Fri May 14, 2010 6:43 pm

I'll like to reduce the spawning frequency of bats in Abot's mod.
I know how to disable them completely, but I would prefer keeping some bats around.

I'm currently looking through the scripts trying to understand what's what, but I'm still a novice in scripting so it's not a big success so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would like something like this as well. While I love the mod itself, the amount of hostile bats makes walking around outdoors at night practically impossible. They're as bad as the cliff racers. Every few steps I have two or three bats attacking.

It makes it more than a bit difficult to enjoy the pretty starlit sky.

I agree about the bats; sounds like what they need is to be more passive. There are mods which make non-diseased wildlife passive, but I doubt one mod would work on creatures added by another. I don't mind getting attacked by hostile creatures, but not all creatures should be hostile.

I would prefer a version of Abot's mod without any hostile creatures at all. Not just creature vs player/NPC but also without creature vs creature. The suicidal birds attacking ascended sleepers thing is a bit weird to see. :P

Also those little bright dots flying around, fireflies I think? Those could use a better mesh. From a distance it's fine but they look really bad up close. And they also attack random creatures with poison attacks. :P

In my case, most of the time the bats don't attack me (which is good), but they go pick fights with creatures from other mods (which is bad). My visits in Balmora are quite chaotic with battles clashing left and right.

Possibly off-topic, but as long as we're on the subject of updating this mod, would it be possible to add flocks of birds like in Oblivion's Natural Environments mod?

Didn't try it personally, but isn't that what http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=757 does?

The thing about the creatures attacking each other is that ab0t scripted them to 'follow the PC'. I'm not sure why this was necessary, but I believe the attacks are a side-effect of them technically being your companions. As I said, I'm not sure why this was done, but I'm sure with some of the smaller and/or rarer creatures, it's quite possible you'd never see them at all if they weren't 'looking for you' so to speak.

I'm pretty sure the hostile creatures could be changed rather easily, but the non-hostiles; I just don't know.

As for the fireflies, do they have bodies? I've never seen one up close. We get a lot of fireflies where I live and unless you decide you want to catch them, they do seem like non-corporeal lights to me. I guess what I mean is, they look about right to me.

I think I agree, the bats are a little overboard. Before when I started a new character, there were always bats patrolling around in Seyda Neen, I had to turn the difficulty down just so I wouldnt die from them at the lowest levels. I once saw some birds go and attack a cliff racer for some unknown reason, didnt stay to watch.
