Help a Fallout fan enjoy Skyrim

Post » Thu Aug 14, 2014 10:59 pm

To clarify, i actually played TES games fairly early on (Morrowind), but since Oblivion I've moved into the other boat so to speak. To me Oblivion wasn't a very enjoyable game, but I bought Skyrim because it looked promising and seemed to fix things that I disliked about Oblivion. When I bought the game I knew I should be immersed in what was a very well crafted world, but I couldn't help but to just feel bored.

Does anyone here have some mods to recommend based on how much they improved their Skyrim experience? If it helps, Fallout New Vegas is one of my favorite games of all time. I can't really put a finger on what makes me bored, but I've noticed key differences between the games.

- Skyrim has shallow companions

- No quest choice

- Weird level scaling

- Poorly executed civil war

- Lack of unique locations

My final qualm is dumb, but the biggest reason I can become so immersed in Fallout is due to the music. For me, if a game doesn't have a good soundtrack it becomes hard to enjoy. I know Skyrim wont have radios but is there an alternative?

I would love it for a Fallout fan to get me into Fallout 3 and New vegas but I find the games very boring. What I am trying to say is, there is nothing I can do.

If you are on computer download the mod for the follower Sofia.

Unfortunately there isnt much to be done with the vanilla companions. There are mods like http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/14037/? and http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/15524/? that give you a bit more out of the follower system. You can also add followers like http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/54527/? and http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/26393/? who are custom made and voiced followers with a bit more depth than vanilla.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/26359/?

You may want to look into an overhaul mod that would also give you a bit more in skills and skill trees - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9286/? and http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19281/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/37216/?

I'm not sure with this one.

Also if you enjoyed FONV hardcoe you may also want to look into http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/26228/? and http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/11163/?

- Skyrim has shallow companions

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/8429, http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/26393, http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40960, http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/53754 etc.

- No quest choice

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/26359

- Poorly executed civil war

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/37216

- Lack of unique locations

What do you mean by this? You want more variety in existing locations? For towns & villages, http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13608 makes settlements & inns more unique. Otherwise, there are mods that add new locations (Wyrmstooth, Falskaar, Moonpath to Elsweyr, etc).

EDIT:

I'll also repost my list of (mainly immersion) mods I feel appropriate for every character:

This is a strange complaint, especially from a Fallout New Vegas fan. One of the few things Bethesda do much better than Obsidian is crafting an interesting, varied world.

When I say lack of unique locations I mean that if you've seen something once, you've seen it a million times. The forts all feel so similar, as well as the smaller villages. In Fallout you may randomly stumble upon an abandoned airport, or a rehabilitated mountain lodge. What I'm asking for is some diversity.

Actually, if you need help improving flaws you have with Fallout, feel free to ask :D. I personally want everyone to be able to enjoy the series and there are many mods you can use to create an experience you may enjoy.
