Need archery help!

Post » Fri Aug 15, 2014 12:48 am

I just started Skyrim, my character is a level 3 Wood Elf with 26 archery skill and 1/5 on overdraw. Anyway, with my hunting bow and iron arrows the arrows only seem to go six feet or so before dropping to the ground- the enemy is on me by the time any hit. Looking over the forums others don't seem to have this problem. Did I set up this character wrong or am I doing something wrong during the battles? Any hints or suggestions? Thanks!

Just hold down your attack button until bow is fully drawn back. that is all you need to do

Also you might have to get some practice when firing at long range.

You will need to aim a little higher for farther shots, trajectory is taken into account!

Well he could be having that archery glitch that pops up from time to time.

Are you shooting an arrow and it sails about 5-6 feet and then just drops like it hit an invisible wall? I had that issue on the PS3. Fixed it by switching to a different bow or switching arrows.

Otherwise if it could depend on the distance your target it, the arrows will drop if your to far away.

I play on PC and that bug with an arrow falling on the groud happens pretty often. Unfortunately I have no idea what causes it, and I have no solution since it only happens to a single arrow and other ones are normal. Maybe try other arrows and bow, I don't know. Download updates, install Unofficial Skyrim Patch, it may help.

The glitch might be if you are to close to a wall. The game engine might think that the arrow is hitting the wall/rock/railing, etc.

Happens to me all to often. Usually there are a number of things I try before it fixes.

  • Switch and re-equip bow
  • Change to higher level bow
  • Switch and re-equip arrows
  • Use better arrows than iron, falmer, forsworn, or practice.

Any one of these things often fixes it for me. You might also try saving and reloding. Hope it helps.

Every once in a great while i have the arrow hit the invis wall as well, but very seldom. It is mainly due to me being close to another object like others have said.

My suggestions is trying what others have stated, I have done those things and it seems to go away. Never happens when I use Steel arrows and above.

Invisible walls can also appear if you are aiming down on a target like if you are standing on a rock or cliff somewhere.

OP-What platform do you play on?
