Finding mods on hard drive

Post » Wed Aug 20, 2014 3:12 am

I have both the Steam version of Morrowind, and the disk version. My original purchase of the disk was to obtain the construction set. An so I have been building mods recently. My problem is that I cannot find them on my hard drive. If it were the Steam version, I would know exactly where to look. But they are attached to the disk version of the game, which is found under C:/ Program files / Bethesda/ Morrowind. The game is there, but the mods are not. This seems strange to me because they are in the game when I run it, and are listed under data files when I double-click the desktop icon. They do not attach to the Steam version of the game, and I gave made no arrangements for them to do so. Does anyone have any idea where they might be located on the drive?

They are not in the ...Morrowind/data files folder?

That's where they are saved for me when I make a mod.

It was my assumption that they were saved to the Data Files folder by default, but if you can not find them there then I can not even begin to suggest where to look.

For some reason they are not there. Beats me why. They exist in-game when I test them. But all that is listed in C:/ Program files 86/ Bethesda/ Morrowind/ Data files is the vanilla game and the two official releases (Tribunal and Bloodmoon). Seems strange as heck to me.

Did you check the steam version's folder just to be sure? If they aren't there and somehow still working then this just got spooky. Ghooooooooooooost mods are haunting your Morrowind!

Also did you try using the search function on your desktop start menu? If you know the name of the esp you can look it up there.

Yeah, I checked there. Besides, when I run Steam version, the mods don't show up in game. Only when I run disk version are they there. The construction set id storing them somewhere on my hard drive, and the game seems to know where they are. I just cannot seem to locate them. I would like to make archival backups and stuff. I guess I will have to keep hunting. Thanks.

Your installation path is the problem. Windows Vista/7/8 sort of "protects" the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders, and that often causes problem when modding games. You could try moving/reinstalling the game to other place, like C:\Games or whatever.

Of course you'll still want to get the mods you already made. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/781497-vistawindows-7-problems/?p=12113679. Just go to Data Files instead if Saves.
