How difficult is combat with the JSawyer mod?

Post » Sun Aug 24, 2014 9:36 am

I'm considering downloading the JSawyer mod, but apparently it increases the difficulty of combat. I normally play Normal Non-hardcoe, and I'm quite happy with the overall difficulty of combat. If I were to download and run the JSawyer mod, would I experience a significant increase in difficulty during combat? Because other than that, I'm extremely interested in the mod. Also, would I need to look into Compatibility Patches for Project Nevada, Underwater Home, or YUP? Those are the main mods that I know I'm running (don't have access to my computer at the moment, but those are the main mods I remember. I generally don't go too crazy with mods), though I may have more I need to ask about when I get access to my computer.

I only play the Sawyer mod on hardcoe, so I can't speak for the Sawyer mod on any other level; on hardcoe though, the DTs (and I believe the DRs as well) for power armor, heavy armor, and I believe medium armor as well have been markedly increased. To give you an example, they're high enough that rounds from Medicine Stick and Brush Guns will all but bounce off power armor- and they're not that much more effective against the other two types either. So unless you're a heavy weapons enthusiast, you'll need to make good use of cover when you're not actually firing when you go up against well armored opponents. Fiends are still a non- issue, as are gang members- unless you are using the Factions Reloaded mod- in which case the latter are well armored and armed. It's definitely worth trying, particularly if you are looking for a greater challenge.

It's not so much that I'm looking for more of a challenge, though I'm not against the idea; it's that the JSawyer mod changes a lot of stuff that I find interesting, or at least worth giving a chance (like armors having both DR and DT), but I'm afraid that the changes to combat will be too extreme. And while I could probably make the same changes the JSawyer mod does myself in the GECK, that's a lot of work that I'd rather not have to do. Hopefully, the combat changes won't be too much for me; otherwise, I'm going to have to figure out how to undo the combat changes while keeping everything else, and I'm a complete beginner with the GECK.

Just give it a shot. If you do not like it you can always uninstall the mod and start a different character or go back to your old character.

I suggest using a new character if playing this mod, that way you can ease yourself into the mod.

I'll have to do that. At the very least, it seems that combat is still manageable against all but the most well-armored opponents, and I don't generally make it a point to take on BoS members with my fists, so I should be okay as long as there aren't too many enemies with obscene amounts of armor for no reason (*pointed look at Joshua Graham's 50DT Light Armor/Headwrap combo*). As soon as I get my Internet back, I'll download it. I just hope that it won't conflict too badly with my existing mods. I'm thinking of loading it after YUP, so that YUP loads it's changes, then JSawyer overwrites anything it affects, so I'm working with those instead.
