Hi.

I am at level 5 and am completely clueless what to do. I haven't had that issue in Fallout 3, even though F3 seems to have a much larger world. So far I have done a little gambling, gotten the intelligence implant at level 1 and done the gecko killing part of the tutorial. Other than that I am roaming around the wastes aimlessly, fighting off what little threats I find. There seem to be less hostiles than as in F3 as well. So far I fought mostly fiends, a couple of death claws, various geckos, scorpions, bugs. It took ages to reach level 5 with those few enemies. I don't see how there is enough to do to reach level 50. I susspose l50 is the limit with the dlc?

The best way to find things to do is to talk to everybody who doesn't just shoot you on sight...

Sounds like you're playing the game with the same mentality of an ordinary Bethesda game. Also sounds like you did NOT partake in the "tutorial path" and head south towards Primm, Nipton, then Novac, Boulder City and then Vegas while following along with the main quest. Skipping this tutorial is fine but I think if you're on your first playthrough then of course you'll be confused for skipping it.

Bethesda games stress exploration, New Vegas? New Vegas stresses quests. Learn to pay attention to those, talk to people and find quests and give that a chance. Sorry to break it to you that the game isn't identical in style to FO3 in that regard (you can just wander aimlessly for ages and never talk to people) but give it a shot all the same.

If you walk straight north from Goodsprings, I think you will find some creatures that are a little tougher than geckos...
