[W.I.P.] Mobsification of mods

Post » Wed Aug 27, 2014 9:17 am

Hi,

I made a mobsification of many mods for myself, and as Theras Elkyrd encouraged me to share it, I have a few questions...

I made it as adviced - a filter patch with bash tags like: Deactivate, Filter, NoMerge, Stats so that I can update it everytime with new weapons' stats only instead of editing others' mod files, with every old weapon, everytime someone updates a mod.

Since it's a filter patch, am I to assume that I don't need any special permissions? If I'm to release it, I have to be absolutely sure, because some of the mods that the filter patch patches are from the long-gone authors.

I would definitely credit them all with all the download links. Should I attempt to contact them with info that I made such a patch that patches their mods beside crediting them?

IMO, as it's a filter patch anyone who uses it will need the author's original mod enabled before your mod would function. To me I don't believe you need to seek permission but there are people who're much more familiar with the etiquette of the Oblivion modding scene who may have another viewpoint.

My answer is "Yes." That is merely common courtesy, in my opinion. Outline your changes, provide a link, and offer to take any feedback they might have into consideration if you ever update. The author(s) may have good suggestions to make!

Now this is not strictly necessary, in my opinion, but in the past I have also offered, again as a courtesy, to take down a stand-alone patch such as this if the author(s) object to what I have done. I am here for the long haul and maintaining good relations with members of the community is more important to me than publishing a patch.

I'm not sure, I think that a filter patch leaves up to you whichever mod you want to use, it does not require masters to be present, but maybe it is so only if you use Wrye Bash.

Yeah thanks for suggestions, I will keep that in mind.

As for your second thought, I totally agree, I won't be releasing it if that are any objections, I don't want to risk any anger of mod authors.

you gotta tell me how you are angering people when you make a patch that a user is not forced to use and you didn't even touch the main .esp. There is a difference between adding features and removing them
