Fearing the new rpgs?

Post » Tue Sep 02, 2014 4:47 pm

Recently I am taking one of my many rests frm modding Issgard , wich doesnt means I dropped it , but that I have other stuffto do , some have wrote me that I should just give up it because if a mod doesnt comes out by at least a year of development then its useless because now other games like withcer3 dragonage 3 and others are coming out and looking better than skyrim anyway , putting it among the obsolete and old games . The interest will drop and nobody or very few people will be interested in it .

Indeed I still have lot of work agead for issgard and its not easy to conciliate work , rl , other stuff with the modding .

Do you have any fear for the upcoming games and the definitive obsolescence of skyrim and so that the userbase that will benefit from the mod becoming more and more thin?

You needn't fear the new 'rpg's, they won't have a mod support as complete as Bethesda's games have.
p.s.: I bought Skyrim on release day, because of the mods that I've hoped to be made for. And see, there IS the Beyond Skyrim project!

It's been a long time since you made one of your many "Is Skyrim obsolete?" threads. You must lie awake nights worrying about this subject. ;)

No, I don't think Skyrim obsolete now. And I don't think Skyrim will be obsolete any time in the near future. I don't think any of these new games will make Skyrim obsolete. None of these games have what Skyrim has, either as games or as modding platforms. The Elder Scrolls is fairly unique.

The Morrowind modding community still thrives. In fact, it's probably more active than the Oblivion modding community. And the Oblivion modding community is still active.

So no, I think your near-constant fears of Skyrim's obsolescence are entirely unfounded.

The upcoming RPGs may be taking on aspects of Skyrim's gameplay but I doubt they'll have the longevity. The only thing that will reduce Skyrim's user base is the release of Fallout 4, and even then plenty of people will stick around.

Prometheus that person told you a bunch of [censored]. He assumes everyone is going to jump on the witcher bandwagon(I never even played any of the games). That's all people seem to do these days is [censored] assume. I'm still very interested into the stuff being put out for Skyrim. Honestly did you read that at the nexus? You can't take what is said there too seriously, or yes you WILL BE discouraged.

Keep working on your mod, new lands mods are still one of those most sought after aspects in Skyrim.

I will also say that the Morrowind modding community is still pumping out stuff despite the game being almost 12 years old with "kill app" games being released plenty during that time.

I quite like the Witcher games, though they aren't devoid of issues. That said I can't really see myself playing them as much as I have played Elder Scrolls and Fallout games as there is more of an emphasis on story progression, which to a certain degree restricts what you can do, than in Elder Scrolls or Fallout games. Sure there are mod tools for the Witcher games, but I haven't seen modding on the scale of games like Skyrim. I know I'll get the upcoming game at some point, but I don't think the new game will steal players away as much as it will borrow them for a while.

I think the Skyrim modding community will be viable for quite a while based on the activity of the modding communities of the predecessors and the amount of new tools and resources being developed.

Continue your work as planned. As has been said Morrowind is still churning out mods. TES community has some pretty active and dedicated mod authors. I have never seen such an active mod community. Do not get discouraged and continue your work, I am eagerly awaiting this mod I have been following since it was announced.

This is stupid gamers' talk; Skyrim will never be obsolete. Look at Morrowind, 12 years old and still counting among the best games ever. And people are still modding it. Don't listen to them; just do whatever you want to do. ;)

No. I'm not even remotely interested in them.

That kind of subject pops up each time new RPGs comes out. Morrowind and Oblivion are still alive, even after all those years. The same will apply to Skyrim I think. The only "problem" with the new games will be the visibility of mods and the "new car smell". As soon as the novelty wears off, people will come back to Skyrim and whatnot.
