I guess a better question would be.... How does the ritual work?

Delilah was attempting to take over Emily's body but I don't know if it was ever explained in Brigmore Witches how that works. She has the painting and will use that to enter Emily's body but what happens to Emily's spirit? Does it get trapped in the painting? Does her spirit end up getting lost in the Void? It is said that Delilah "steals" spirits but it doesn't say if Emily's gets 'kicked' out and into the Void when Delilah's spirit enters or not. I don't know if that was explained in game. Anyone want to tackle this?
