I can run Skyrim mostly fine on an Intel i5-4200U. You'll be more than fine.

Thank you for the reply, I'm going to try and run 2 K textures across the board, with an ENB like Real Vision.

You will have no problems with that setup, although you should consider using a SSD instead of a normal HDD, or at least a combo of both. SSDs costs more, yes, but are faster, smaller and generally the way to go. So .. for example one 512gb SSD and one 1tb or 1,5tb HDD. The HDD could also be one with only 5200 rpm instead of 7200 rpm (I have one from Seagate) .. a bit slower, but not so noisy.

I was about to say get a SSD, too. With lots of hi-res textures, SSD will make load times more tolerable.

There seems to be so much debate on whether upcoming games like LOTR or Dragon Age Inquisition will use more than 2 GB on Ultra at 1080p with 1 monitor.

I was also looking at a new PC today and one of the things I wanted to consider was whether the price increase from the Haswell (4790) to the Devil's Canyon (4790K) was worth it since the latter is brand new technology. Albeit I was looking at the i5 versions where the difference in price was miniscule. Maybe you already have taken a look at it.

If you plan on 2K textures better get a 4GB VRAM VGA.

2GB and a ENB your VRAM will be maxed out very fast while on exterior cells.

But it all depends on your modding plans.

I have a very stable game in my 670 2GB.

Just can′t go crazy with all the 2K textures on nexus.

Right now I′m in the process of reevaluating all my textures so that I can get better performance while on exteriors.

Well it all depends on how many textures and mods in general you want to use and how much money you want to spend on the pc. If you use only a few texture replacers and let's say, 50 mods in total the 2gb should be enough at 1080p. If you use more mods and want to go all out, then a gtx 780 3gb or even better gtx 780 ti 3gb (or equivalent amd radeon card) would be better.

@ eempc

https://skinflint.co.uk/?cmp=1119923&cmp=1050223#xf_top .. in case you already have the i7-4790, then NO, the i7-4790k is not needed. In case not, then I would say, go get the k-variant as the difference in the price is only 20-30 €/$. But make sure you buy a good cpu fan with 160 tdp minimum, if not better 190 tdp. Both i7-4790 and i7-4790k tend to get a bit hot if the cpu is under 100% load (programs like AIDA64 have such benchmarks). Sure, that will rarely be the case, especially if you only play Skyrim, but well the standard boxed fan would be a little less for gaming with that cpu.

Edit: Ah, didn't see you were looking at i5 versions. Can't say for sure for those. Sorry.
