Why does 50 shades of grey seem to be exclusively for women

Post » Fri Sep 05, 2014 11:37 am

Or at least that is how it is described pretty much everywhere. If its about 20-somethings engaging in bdsn, would a straight male find no pleasure in seeing an otherwise ordinary woman delve deeper and deeper into a dark submissive relationship (I'm assuming that's what the book is about)?

because! its just softcoe porm, but the lady folk call it literature because it sounds classier.

or something like that, i already read enough books aimed at a female audience, so i dont want to figure out what this book is like.

Why don't you just go pickup a fee smut mags. It'd be about the same.

Why would any self respecting man want to read Fifty Shades of Grey.

Probably for the same reasons that all those romance novels in the grocery store "seem to be exclusively for women." Since that's pretty much what it is.

By self-respecting man, do you mean men who aren't gay, or men who don't look at women as their playthings?

There are plenty of straight men who are into bdsn, female submission, and all that creepy stuff. It's just that trashy romance and erotic fiction has historically been written and published for a female demographic. The fact that Fifty Shades started off as a Twilight fanfic only adds to the impression that it had a female audience in mind.

So let me see if I understand this:

men watch porm and aren't afraid to admit it

women read erotic novels, under the pretense that they are just reading "classic literature" because it seems less shameful

Because few women openly admit to watching porm whereas its a topic of civilized conversation between men.

women are classy and mysterious, theres very few of them who would openly let someone see their browsing history or know that they watch porm.

most of the time anyway.

Because 50 Shades is crappy written erotica no different than the other books middle aged women read to be less obvious about how they like to get hot and bothered. I don't need books for that. I HAVE THE INTERNET!

I like 50 Thousands Shades of Grey, it's a book filled with action, chases, romance and true love---the best novel ever written.

Pretty much this.

This book is however a borderline topic on it's own, and whatever made some of you think discussing porm-watching habits, etc, is appropriate for this forum is beyond me. Closed before I need to issue more than a :slap:

Heh, I doubt that I'm mysterious and I'm definitely not classy. I watch porm frequently.

I tried to read Fifty Shades of Grey but I could even make it past page 50. That stupid airhead of a protagonsit made me want to to throw the book against the wall. She's presented as such a klutz, a ditzy, as so self-doubting and lacking in self-respect that I was actually shocked to find that she could drive a car all by herself.

I don't think this book is for anyone with a brain, male or female.
