Don't think of Vault M17 as a tutorial. It doesn't have to feature initial save and respec option. It shouldn't be a tedium, rather an introduction of an unfoldig narrative. The linearity ends at the exit and never returns.

I get what you are going for. And I don't think it sounds bad.

But to me it appears more as something one encounters somewhere down the road (a maze to escape from while being sought for by an unknown... "being" one may not be able to kill -- a pretty obvious http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078748/ reference) rather than begins the game with.

No doubt. I wouldn't be surprised if there were even further respecs like in Skyrim (the extra difficulty mode iirc resets your skills), because the player levels too much, too quickly and too easily.

To be fair the Vault 101 intro can be finished in 10 minutes if you know what you're doing like the temple of trials. But also like the temple of trials it can take a while to finish if it's a new player, so it's not an entirely fair comparison.

That's fair. I think it's an extremely personal experience, that all players should share. It gives meaning to your heritage. Beginning the game this way not only introduces elements of c&c, it also leaves a lasting impression about the gone wrong Vault experiment and like I said, mystifies and demystifies the PC.

It's hard to get a 'not bad' from someone who's such a sceptic as you are (I don't mean it in a bad way) so I'll take your statement as a compliment. Maybe I can come up with another introduction next time, that plays out differently.

Btw the Alien is an age-old concept, as it represents fear. But You're right, the creature can of course be taken as a reference.
