1 Second Soul Trap

Post » Wed Sep 10, 2014 9:10 pm

Is that enough time? Even with a 1 hit snipe from a bow I would think it takes a couple seconds for them to actually die. I'm about to make my bow a soul trapper but am conflicted. I'd like over 1000 charges on it, but 1 second doesn't seem like enough time. I'm seeking Petty Souls, one hit critters I hunt for leather etc.

Thoughts?

1 sec is enough so long as it's the killing shot.

it might be if you can one shot something.

Otherwise try and get a better soul gem and see about a 5-7 second window.

I can do up to 6 seconds I think, but then the charges are low, and like I say I'm looking to one shoot the critters. I have another bow that is 4 seconds I found, I've been using that but I seem to be charging it a lot. I figure I can reserve that one for bigger critters I can 2 shoot and use this new one with as many charges as possible, for my one shot kills on deer, elk, goats, wolves etc. for petty gems. I have a lot of iron daggers made I'm making them to up my smithing, but then I need petty gems to enchant them to raise their value before selling them. Lather rinse repeat. It's how I'm buying and stashing the Grand Soul Gems for when my enchanting is better. But I'm burning this one to make a petty soulcatcher. *grin*

Just seems 1 second isn't enough even with a 1 hit.

But yeah, I think I'll go with 1 second to have 1k charges on the thing. Thanks for the quick response.

Sometimes the killcam will screw over 1 second soul trap enchantments. I've found 2 seconds on the enchantment to be perfect.

Go with two seconds just in case.

As long as its the killing blow. I always put Soul Trap and Paralyze for 1 second.

2-3 seconds is plenty of time, any more is just a waste. TBH, the one thing you'll really want is the Fiery Soul Trap enchantment. That's like two enchantments in one. Disenchant that, and take the extra effect perk, and you can have three effects in one weapon. Granted one of those is a bit on the weak side, but every little bit helps, wouldn't you say?

I'll go with 1 second, see how it goes, if it's a problem I'll go back to the save just before the enchant and do 2. I'll post here with results. Inquiring minds want to know.

I always use 1 second soul trap on daggers. Why use longer?

Yeah, I think that for something like archery, 1 second is probably best. Even if you don't manage to kill in one shot, you'll do it in subsequent shots, and having more charges guarantees you'll Trap successfully.

That is assuming you have no followers that will try to kill the thing after you attack it. That can be a problem, especially for melee.

I like a 2-second soultrap enchantment on a weapon. BarrettsFloyd is right, the Fiery Soultrap enchantment (you can find a weapon with this in Ironbind Barrow) is really nice. You can also climb the Conjuration skill tree & take a perk that gives you soultrap on bound weapons, & you never have to recharge it.

This would have the benefit of not only leveling up two skills, but also freeing up precious space in your inventory since you won't have that physical bow and arrow to weigh you down.
