So Today I decided to finally play Skyrim again after a year or more. So I'll give you some details, My PS3 is a 180gb Slimline model, no game data saves or anything else on it just completely empty and full free space. My PS3 software is updated. So I put in the skyrim disc and it brings me to the install game data screen, I go away and come back a few minutes later and its stuck on 16% I wait for 30 mins during which time its jumped to 17% and then I wait another whole hour or more and its gone nowhere still stuck on 17%. So I quit and delete whatever game data had installed and try again this time installing the skyrim patch first, I enter the game data screen and this time it froze on 5% for an hour or more. I'm absolutely clueless as to what the problem is? It worked fine a year ago I completed the whole main questline and everything and this time round its broken. So after spending the whole day trying to reinstall after reinstall after reinstall I'm mind blown. Now one thing to take into consideration is my ps3 was quite dusty and I'm not sure if cleaning the blu ray lens and other components would help. But as of now nothing has worked, if anyone could help me or if they had similar issues please post here and let me know. Any help appreciated guys. Thank you.

it probably would not hurt to clean the system. take a vacuum and svck the dust out of the cooling vents and things like that. (Don't use compressed air)

But what your saying is as its installing the game data off the disc it just stops? That is strange but it might be a console issue instead of a game issue. Do you have any other games that have to install game data that you could try and see if it will install those games?

Will give it a clean now with the vacuum. Yeah basically it installs up to 16% and that's it, it just stays on 16% then. I'll try and install another game now too.

Other games installed fine. What I noticed is when I look at the game data after I've quit the skyrim install its always 430mb or around that, it wont install anymore.

I wouldn't open the case either, to clean the lens from your PS3. This will avoid your warranty (if it's valid, and not expired), and you can make things worse.

Try another game, that installs a huge amount of data on your HDD, and see what happens. !!!

You obvious mean the 160GB HDD Slimline model, and not the 180GB one. !!!

Well there's tutorials online on how to do it, doesnt look that tricky tbh but I'm not sure it will make a difference. And yeah I meant the 160 sorry bout that. I forgot to mention that earlier today it installed fully after I formatted the HDD. But the game froze on the loading part with the Dragon it just went on and on and on so I deleted the game data and went for a reinstall but now this happened.

So I installed the skyrim patch and then left it to do the game data install I went away and came back an hour later and my ps3 was off ?!?!? I went into game data utility and it said 430mb skyrim data which is around 17% so it never even went past 17%. So confused right now. Theres literally no fix for this I've looked everywhere.

So it got 17% of the way installing the game and then the console turned itself off? Was the red light flashing or solid? I'm leaning towards a console issue now. I don't see the game causing this.

Red light was solid. Right now what I'm going to do is uninstall the skyrim patch and leave it to install game data and see what happens this time.

yeah, keep the system disconnected from the internet and try and install the game data only. Then install the patches.

Alright so I left it and came back an hour later and its stuck on 16%. Honestly have no clue what could be causing this. Very strange. Any ideas?

or the disc is scratched. Do you know anyone you can borrow a copy from?

Delete all your skyrim data. Main game + DLC's. Even older saves. Borrow a copy from a friend, or rent the game somehow.

Do the installation again. If the same happens, we should start to maintain the HDD with the PS3 recovery menu.

However, i would to know, if you have installation problems (from the disk to the hard drive) with other games too. !!!

Disc isnt scratched. Will try and get another copy somehow. And yes other games install fine except skyrim. My ps3 was fully clear when I started no game saves just a totally wiped ps3. So I have no saves to delete only the half installed skyrim game data as of now.

I thought you have formated your drive ???

It is possible to backup your stuff, and leave the HDD empty ??? (without nothing in there ???)
