Sunrays have turned purple. Please help

Post » Thu Sep 11, 2014 11:02 pm

I've been playing Skyrim with a Grim and Somber preset for over a year now with Enhanced Lights and FX version 0.4.1 (which I know is an older version since ELFX is now on 2.0) Anyway everything was fine all this time until today.

Last time I played my character I traveled during daylight hours from roughly Morthal to the Pale and the sunrays looked just fine. I saved my character in the Dawnstar tavern last night and turned the game off.

Today when I loaded that save and stepped outside it was still daylight but as I traveled away from Dawnstar I began to notice the sunrays were beginning to look very strange.

They look like this.

I thought maybe it was just a strange effect as sometimes snow/overcast clouds can cause a darker blue appearance to snow. So I hit shift+F12 to turn the ENB off and discovered the following.

Directly above me and persistently following me around is a large block of missing sky textures. Its not just in the sky above Dawnstar. I mapped to Whiterun and it followed me there.

I uninstalled ELFX to see if it was causing the issue and loaded the game again and the issue is still there. if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. The only thing I did between last night and today was install a armor mod. Which I also uninstalled when I noticed this issue on the odd chance it was causing this. That did not solve it either.

It has some direct connection to the sun. I loaded from before going to Dawnstar and it was at dusk. sun rays looked ok. So I waited there until dawn and I could see on the eastern horizon, the strange line appearing in the sky. I then waited until noon and the strange missing textures were directly over head. What ever it is its caused by the sun and seems to move with it.

I'm at a loss here guys. :(

Its there with the enb on or off, with ELFX installed or uninstalled.

I am not an expert, Resident, but it might be that your graphics card is dying.

I went back to older saves with the same character to see if the issue appeared when I was not aware of it, and the issue was there. So what ever it is its effecting older saves. What I have not done is load a different character and see what happens. I suppose I'll try that but I don't have much faith that I'll find the issue absent. What is strange is its there with and without the enb turned on.

I needed to clean the dust out of my PC anyway (I do this every few months) and needed some compressed air so I went to the PC store and bought some. The guy at the store suggested I check and see if my drivers are up to date.

And before we go to far here let me say this is all a foreign language to me. I'm not computer savvy in the slightest. If its not point and click, its over my head.

Is it possible since I run Skyrim on the highest settings PLUS the enb that the card could be over taxed? Interior cells look fine. At night it looks fine. But the sunlight being purple is just really weird. Everything else looks ok. in the game.

So before I go adding more programs and such I'd like to find out if my Nvidia drivers are up to date. Of course I got no idea how to do this...

While at the store I also pvssyd with the guy on the warranty of the graphics card were that to be the issue and it has a limited 3 year warranty but they only give you the exact same card. If it is an issue with the card I might as well take the opportunity to upgrade to an even better one like a 3gb 760 GeForce card. But we're talking money.

And before I start throwing money trying to fix purple sunrays...

*edit*

I loaded a different character. one I just created the other day. SAME issue. The sun rays are fine when the sun is either low in the east or west. Once the sunrise has passed then the rays turn purple. And I could confirm that yes the missing texture in the sky does follow the sun. Advancing the time through the day with the enb off (that's how I can clearly see it) it moves from east to west.

No I don't but none run the same volume of mods that I do with Skyrim.

HOWEVER...

My fingers are crossed, I may have solved it. I had mentioned I thought maybe ELFX was causing the issue so I had uninstalled it and the issue was still there.

However I decided before I got to carried away installing or uninstalling stuff, to update ELFX and see what that did.

For the moment with ELFX ver 2.0 everything is back to normal. I think somehow the older version may have somehow screwed up the sunlight textures. With 2.0 the sun rays are the correct color and no white square in the sky.

I'll report back once I have run some tests to say for sure. But thanks for the help. I don't know what I might have done to have caused the issue but updating ELFX seems to have fixed it. :)

I really hope so.

But man did I drool over those 3gb 760 graphics cards.

It's propably mod related. Mods can mess graphics badly and get those nasty pictures sometimes. "Bad" not properly configured drivers, overheating GPU perhaps.

What's your exixting GPU btw ???

I saw you ither thread. YOu have a GTX 660Ti GPU

Latest Drivers: http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/77224

If you install those drivers, do a clean driver installation. (you will see it you get to the installation procedure)

A "Perform clean Install" check box will be available on the installer, and if ticked will reset all Nvidia settings to default, removing any customizations you have made in the past.

In general I recommend ticking it to ensure that each time you install a new driver package, you start clean and have less chance of conflicting settings from previous drivers.

--------

You reffering to an 3BG GTX 760 !!!! Who you have found that card ???

That's an OEM card, you can't buy that GPU, except your pre-build PC configuration has one inside. (only if you buy a pre-built pc, you can get an OEM GPU)

---------------

Short story: An OEM GPU version is usually for PC builders who sell a fully running PC to customers !!!

Specs are diffrent too.

A OEM GTX 760 GPU with 1.5GB/3GB has lower specs than a regular GTX 760 GPU with 2GB Memory.

Lower, base clock and boost clock speed. Lower memory width: (192bit instead of 256bit), and lower Memory bandwidth as well. (134 instead of 192.2)

You should consider that. !!!

-----------------

From the specs i saw, your GTX 660Ti should be slightly faster than the OEM GTX 760 with 3GB of ram. So thing about it....

I was at Best Buy and they had 3gb Nvidia Geforce 760 graphic cards for $550. Nearly $240 more then the asking price of a 2gb Nvidia Geforce 740ti card.

I'm running a 600watt power supply with a triple cooling fan system and a Nvidia Geforce GTX 660ti graphics card.

As i say above. GTX 760 > GTX 660 Ti > GTX 760 OEM

You PSU is enough to drive safe a GTX 760 GPU. !!!

the only issue I might have with a 760 is if my motherboard has the right amount of ports... I think that's the term.

You'll laugh as it makes no sense to even us who live here but everything costs more in Alaska. Seriously. Its like somehow trucking stuff through Canada or flying over Canada as opposed to another state somehow means things can cost more. When shopping online we have to look for the "Alaska and Hawaii not included" fine print or pay higher shipping fees. Even car dealerships here will charge 2-3k more for the exact same car for sale in Seattle because "Well we had to pay the docking fees"

That can of compressed computer cleaning air I bought? $5.99

At least we don't have tax on what we by other the government regulated like tobacco and what not.

Do you have any other add-onn card in your motherboard connected ???

Soundcard - Wifi adapter - expansion card or something else ???

btw what's your exact PSU brand ??? for example: Corsair GS600

--------------

Motherboard model ???

If you don't know, download this utility: http://www.hwinfo.com/files/hw64_444.zip (Just decompress with Winrar or WinZip and run)
