curious about something.

iv noticed a lot of my friends have their own stories they're writing, and i know a couple people here are as well. ironically, (hope to god im using that right) all the people i know who actually want to be writers when they get out of high school have written less than a grocery list, but still a few people write as a hobby, even i attempt to write without butchering the english language as we know it every so often.

so that just makes me curious, how many of you are writing anything? care to share anything about it?

I write as much as I can. Sci-fi shorts, mostly. I've been toying with the idea of starting a series, posting them somewhere on the web weekly.

I don't claim to write anything but I am enjoying making up stuff which eventually ended up with decision to tackle my own fantasy world setting. I don't care to share it yet as I don't really have anything coherent, only craploads of ideas, pieces of mythology and whatnot, and I'm not claiming it's any good either. :P

I do have a friend who's lately into writing, but his first draft is now actually around 75% of average book's size so I can't say he's just all talk.

I wish I was writing something.... I've had ideas for TES fanfics, but never started on them, and I have been thinking on-and-off about two story ideas based on dreams that I've had (one would be a semi-sword and sandal fantasy and the other would be a modern day sci-fi/horror/fantasy work)... all I've done so far is write a few ideas down... and I've had ideas about a creation myth for one of my cultures that I had better write down before I forget it....

:dead:

eventually all of those ideas will become a coherent storyline with amazing characters and plot, and then you trash it all to re-write it four times.

I bet. I already had like 4 different stories about creation of the worlds, and I grew to hate each and every one after few days. :P

Never fancied myself much of a writer. I mean, I can write, I can definitely write, and there was a time, many years ago when I was a teenager and like all teenagers ever thought myself a creative genius, but I ain't much of a writer. Writing's always been a purely utilitarian activity, a means of communication, rather than something I derive pleasure from, although I do enjoy rereading papers that I've written. Furthermore, I find fantasy and science fiction to be total bores, and never had enough to say about my real life experiences to write an interesting book, although I'm not lacking in narcissism. So, unless I become a journalist, I sincerely doubt that I'll write all that much, aside from memos.
